Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Engineering Lead to join our Technology team. In this role you will lead a small, cross-functional engineering squad, own delivery quality and technical direction, and work closely with Product, Design and Ops to ship customer-focused features.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership & Delivery (Core Focus)
  • Champion and advocate AI-enabled delivery within engineering and platform (product, design, engineering) team

  • Lead a small engineering squad (typically 4–8 engineers), providing technical guidance, coaching, and career development.

  • Own sprint delivery, ensure predictable outcomes, and remove blockers to maintain a sustainable delivery cadence.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture that emphasises quality, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.

2. Technical Ownership & Architecture
  • Drive technical design and architecture decisions for your squad’s domain, balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term scalability and maintainability.

  • Work with platform and infrastructure teams to ensure reliability, performance, and security across services.

  • Champion best practices for testing, observability, CI/CD and incident response.

3. Cross-functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
  • Partner closely with Product Managers and Designers to translate customer outcomes into well-scoped technical deliverables.

  • Communicate progress, risks and technical trade-offs to stakeholders and leadership with clarity and transparency.

  • Contribute to roadmap planning and prioritisation to maximise business impact.

4. Hiring & Team Growth
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing and onboarding to grow a high-performing and diverse engineering team.

  • Identify skill gaps and support learning and development initiatives for team members.

About you

Must have:

  • Proven experience (typically 4+ years) as a senior engineer and at least 2 years in a people-leadership role within product engineering teams.

  • Strong technical background in building web-scale services, APIs and data-driven products. Familiarity with modern back-end and cloud technologies.

  • Track record of delivering complex projects end-to-end with a focus on reliability, observability and operational maturity.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with product, design and business stakeholders.

  • Comfortable making pragmatic engineering trade-offs in a fast-paced startup environment and mentoring engineers to raise technical standards.

  • Strong sense of ownership, attention to detail and a solutions-oriented mindset.

Nice to have

  • Experience in health insurance, fintech, or regulated industries.

  • Familiarity with microservices, event-driven architectures, or machine learning system integration.

  • Experience hiring and scaling engineering teams in Hong Kong / Asia markets.
