Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our offices are a hub for collaboration and energy. But we also believe in working where you do your best thinking. Canva offers flexibility to work in a way that suits you — whether that's remote, hybrid, or in-office. This role is based in Sydney, close to the majority of the Print engineering team.
About the team
Canva Print has 110+ people across Australia, the Philippines, and the United States, with a 70+-person technology org predominantly based in Sydney. We cover the full print funnel end-to-end — from helping people discover, design, and buy print-on-demand products to working with the print partners who manufacture and deliver them worldwide. We're building an e-commerce-first Print experience and working to grow Print's annual revenue while keeping sustainability at the core of what we do, including initiatives like one-print-one-tree.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
Canva Print brings Canva designs into the real world, helping people and businesses turn their ideas into products they can hold, share and use. We’re making it easier for anyone to bring an idea from the screen to the physical world, and building toward a billion-dollar business with the scale, complexity and ambition to match. We’re looking for an Engineering Director to lead engineering across Canva Print: a leadership role where your impact comes through the leaders you grow, the strategy you set and the bar you hold.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
Setting and delivering Print's technical strategy, partnering with the Product and Design leads (the group triad) to turn it into goals teams can rally behind
Coaching and growing the Engineering Leads who run our Print teams, and building a healthy leadership pipeline
Owning the quality of technical decisions across the group, and steering the big ones yourself
Translating engineering trade-offs into plain terms so non-technical stakeholders can make good calls
Building a safe, high-performing, growth-oriented culture — hiring, developing, and managing performance across the org
Owning engineering's contribution to Print's commercial and revenue outcomes
Championing how the team adopts AI, both in what we build for customers and how we build it
You're probably a match if
You've led engineering organisations at meaningful scale, including coaching and growing other engineering managers and leads
You bring strong technical judgement — comfortable weighing long-term trade-offs and making sure the right expertise is in the room, even where you're not the deepest expert yourself
You have a track record of turning technical strategy into goals and roadmaps that teams actually deliver against
You think commercially and understand how engineering decisions connect to revenue and business outcomes
You communicate well and build real rapport across product, design, operations, and partner teams
You're comfortable in a fast-growing, ambiguous environment where the role evolves as the business scales
Experience running an e-commerce or marketplace business is a strong plus
You're a genuine people leader — building inclusive, high-performing cultures, resolving conflict, and running fair performance and calibration processes

We're a global online visual communications platform on a mission to empower the world to design. Featuring a simple drag-and-drop user interface and a vast range of templates ranging from presentations, documents, websites, social media graphics, posters, apparel to videos, plus a huge library of fonts, stock photography, illustrations, video footage, and audio clips, anyone can take an idea and create something beautiful on Canva on any device, from anywhere in the world.
Since our launch in 2013, we’ve had the crazy big goal of making design accessible to everyone. We were founded on the belief that people shouldn't need to understand complex software to unlock their creativity. We’re leveling the playing field and democratizing access to design and visual communication by empowering 100% of the world to communicate in a way that was once limited to the 1%.
We've always had a deeper mission surrounding Canva — which we talk about as our 'simple' two-step plan: to build one of the world’s most valuable companies, and to do the most good we possibly can. We're committed to our core value of Being a Force for Good, so as the value of our company grows, so too does our ability to have a positive impact on the world.
