The Opportunity

We’re looking for a hands-on Engineering Coordinator – Operations to lead and support engineering activities within our pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Swindon.

This is a shift-based leadership role (60% leadership / 40% hands-on) where you’ll manage a team of 4-5 shift maintenance engineers while remaining close to the equipment and operations. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring equipment reliability, rapid response to issues, and full compliance with GMP and safety standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead, supervise, and support a team of shift maintenance engineers
  • Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance activities during your shift
  • Act as the primary engineering contact for Operations
  • Ensure rapid, effective response to breakdowns and emergencies
  • Allocate engineering resources to meet production priorities
  • Manage external contractors and vendors
  • Lead structured shift handovers to ensure continuity
  • Ensure all activities meet GMP, safety, and quality standards
  • Review and close work orders in the CMMS system
  • Escalate technical, safety, or quality concerns appropriately
  • Coach and develop team members, including performance management
  • Promote a strong safety-first and continuous improvement culture

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience in pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing (preferred)
  • Strong leadership experience within an engineering environment
  • Knowledge of GMP, compliance, and health & safety standards
  • Experience with CMMS and maintenance planning systems
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement tools (e.g., RCA)
  • Understanding of manufacturing equipment (e.g., filling lines, packing)
  • Knowledge of utilities systems such as HVAC, clean steam, water systems, and compressed gases
  • Cleanroom experience (desirable)

Minimum Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English & Maths (Grade 4 or above)
  • Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 3 NVQ or equivalent) – Mechanical or Electrical
  • HNC (Level 4+) or equivalent in an engineering discipline
  • 3–5 years’ experience in a maintenance engineering role
  • Experience with CMMS systems
  • Awareness of Process Safety systems (e.g., PTW, LOTO, Confined Space, Working at Height)
