The Team
You will lead an engineering chapter of highly skilled engineers across squads, ensuring strong engineering craftsmanship, knowledge development, and consistent delivery across the IT Area and our main business partners (incl. ING Analytics, Enterprise Architecture, Engineering, Risk, Security, Compliance)
You work in a global setup across Netherlands, Poland, and hubs, collaborating with Product Managers, IT Area Leads, and cross-domain stakeholders.
Role & Responsibilities
For the role we are looking for someone to be able to execute the following responsibilities:
Leadership & Delivery Accountability
Accountable for end-to-end delivery of AI-driven capabilities through your engineering team
Translate product priorities into clear engineering approach, architecture, and delivery plans
Lead, coach, and develop engineers (performance, growth, hiring)
Ensure quality, reliability, and scalability of solutions in production
Manage delivery performance, resolve blockers, and intervene when off-track
AI Engineering & Technical Leadership
You will personally shape the technical direction of global AI initiatives:
Architect enterprise-grade AI and multi-agent systems (Copilot, GenAI agents, orchestration frameworks)
Lead design of agentic workflows (multi-agent reasoning, routing, integrations)
Define and implement AI platform architecture, RAG pipelines, and integrations with enterprise systems
Ensure AI systems are scalable, secure, observable, and compliant
Drive technical decision-making, architecture reviews, and engineering standards
AI Product Engineering & Integration
Build and scale Copilot / M365 agents and enterprise AI use-cases
Design API-driven integrations with systems (ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, M365, Graph, Workday, etc)
Implement AI-enabled workflows embedded in enterprise platforms and Sofware Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes
Define measurement frameworks, evaluation metrics, and feedback loops for AI systems
Operational Excellence & Risk
Ensure AI reliability, monitoring, and continuous improvement loops
Drive AI safety, governance, observability, and risk mitigation frameworks
Guarantee compliance with security, data protection, and regulatory standards
Strategic & Innovation Contribution
Contribute to AI strategy, roadmap, and long-term platform evolution
Lead innovation and experimentation in AI-first workplace solutions
Translate emerging AI trends into practical ING use cases and capabilities

Your Profile (Senior Engineering Leader)
10+ years in software engineering, with proven leadership of engineering teams
Experience leading mission-critical or large-scale engineering delivery (GJA 17–18 scope)
Strong experience in enterprise environments with complex dependencies and stakeholders
Senior AI Technical Engineering Skills
This role requires hands-on technical credibility at expert level (not theoretical).
AI / GenAI Engineering
Deep expertise in LLMs and GenAI systems (design, architecture, optimization)
Experience building multi-agent systems (LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Copilot Studio, etc.)
Strong experience with prompt engineering, evaluation, and optimization frameworks
AI Architecture & Platforms
Design of enterprise-scale AI platforms and pipelines
Experience with RAG architectures, vector databases, retrieval optimization
Experience with AI model integration via APIs and enterprise systems
Production AI Engineering
Strong software engineering (Python, APIs, services, CI/CD) for AI systems
Experience deploying and operating AI solutions at scale (monitoring, observability, performance)
Expertise in AI model evaluation, metrics, and lifecycle management
AI Safety, Security & Governance
Experience implementing AI safety, guardrails, and risk controls
Strong understanding of AI ethics, explainability, and privacy
Enterprise Integration
Experience integrating AI into enterprise platforms (M365, ServiceNow, DevOps, knowledge systems)
Core Engineering Skills
Strong system design (distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architecture)
DevOps mindset (CI/CD, automation, release strategies)
Reliability engineering (monitoring, SRE practices, performance tuning)
Security-by-design and risk awareness
