About the Role

As Engineering Assurance Manager, you will build confidence in John Holland's engineering outcomes by developing and continuously improving the engineering assurance strategy across all phases of the project lifecycle. Supporting the General Manager Technical, you will help identify and manage engineering risks and opportunities, driving technical excellence and engineering outcomes.

You will lead the engineering assurance process across tenders and live projects, coordinating internal engineering resources, subject matter experts and external technical partners to ensure technical solutions are fit for purpose, deliver value and meet client requirements. Working closely with pre-contracts and project teams, you will support tender development, project mobilisation and delivery. This role can be based in any of John Holland’s head office locations.

What you will do

  • Lead the engineering assurance process across tenders and projects, monitoring engineering progress, risks and opportunities and escalating key technical issues.
  • Coordinate technical reviews and assurance activities, engaging subject matter experts and reviewers to validate technical solutions, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure timely resolution of findings.
  • Support Engineering Leads in the planning and delivery of safe, sustainable and commercially sound technical solutions, including oversight of design procurement, budgets, schedules, requirements management and validation against internal benchmarks.
  • Establish and monitor engineering assurance, compliance and reporting processes, continually reviewing and challenging engineering management systems to drive best practice and improvement.
  • Support tender development and project delivery by identifying engineering requirements, resourcing needs and technical risks, and coordinating the involvement of internal engineering resources and external technical partners.
  • Lead Engineering Assurance improvement initiatives, including performance reporting, business improvement activities, lessons learned and the development of Engineering Assurance KPIs.

What we are looking for

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent), and registration as a Professional Engineer, with substantial experience spanning both design and construction environments.
  • Proven experience leading the technical delivery and assurance of engineering solutions across major tenders and complex infrastructure or construction projects, supported by broad knowledge of engineering methods, planning and cost management.
  • Broad technical engineering knowledge and strong commercial acumen, with the ability to balance risk, value and project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and managing engineering, safety, environmental and quality risks, and providing technical challenge and assurance across complex projects.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across project teams, clients, technical partners and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving, influencing and communication skills, supported by experience across a range of project delivery models and complex engineering environments.
