Our Day to Day

People

• Support the Engineering/Maintenance team with daily hotel maintenance activities and ensure assigned tasks are completed efficiently.
• Work closely with the Engineering Supervisor and other team members to maintain hotel facilities and equipment.
• Assist with planned maintenance schedules and ensure preventive maintenance tasks are completed on time.
• Follow instructions, work safely, and support colleagues during busy periods or urgent maintenance situations.
• Communicate effectively with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and other departments regarding maintenance requirements.
• Participate in daily briefings and keep the Engineering team informed about outstanding maintenance issues and operational priorities.
• Support and guide colleagues where required, sharing knowledge of basic maintenance and repair procedures.

Engineering & Maintenance

• Carry out routine inspections of hotel guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, plant rooms, and equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance as assigned.
• Assist with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance work.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and hotel departments.
• Troubleshoot equipment faults and carry out repairs within your level of competence.
• Ensure all tools, equipment, and maintenance materials are used correctly and kept in good condition.
• Record completed maintenance work, faults, repairs, and outstanding issues accurately.
• Assist external contractors and specialist technicians when required.
• Ensure guest rooms and public areas are returned to a safe and operational condition following maintenance work.

Financial

• Use engineering materials, tools, equipment, energy, and other resources responsibly to minimise unnecessary costs.
• Assist with monitoring maintenance materials and stock levels and report when replacements are required.
• Help reduce equipment breakdowns and operational costs through effective preventive maintenance.
• Avoid unnecessary wastage of water, electricity, spare parts, and other engineering resources.
• Support the Engineering department with maintenance records, inventory checks, and cost-control procedures as required.

Guest Experience

• Respond professionally and promptly to maintenance issues affecting guests.
• Attend to guest room maintenance requests and ensure problems are resolved with minimum disruption to the guest.
• Maintain a professional and courteous approach when working in occupied guest rooms or public areas.
• Communicate clearly with Front Office and other departments regarding the progress and completion of guest-related maintenance requests.
• Identify potential maintenance issues that could affect guest comfort or satisfaction and report them promptly.
• Ensure all work areas are clean, safe, and presentable after completing maintenance activities.

Responsible Business

• Follow all hotel policies, engineering procedures, health and safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Carry out work in accordance with safe working practices and immediately report hazards, defects, or unsafe conditions.
• Support environmentally responsible practices, including efficient use of electricity, water, fuel, and other resources.
• Assist with energy-saving initiatives and help identify opportunities to improve the hotel's environmental performance.
• Ensure maintenance tools and equipment are operated safely and correctly.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and report recurring faults or equipment problems to the Engineering Supervisor.
• Support emergency procedures, including responding to equipment failures, power issues, water leaks, fire alarms, and other operational emergencies as required.
• Ad-hoc duties – unexpected moments when we have to pull together to get a task done.

Accountability

This is a multi-skilled engineering role within the Engineering/Maintenance department, responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance and smooth operation of hotel facilities, equipment, and building systems. The Engineering Assistant – Multi-skilled works closely with the Engineering Supervisor and other hotel departments to complete preventive and corrective maintenance, respond to operational and guest requests, maintain safety standards, and ensure the hotel remains comfortable, safe, and fully operational.

What we need From you

• Diploma, ITI, Bachelor’s degree, or other technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing, or a related engineering field.
• One to three years of experience in hotel engineering, building maintenance, facilities management, or a related technical environment; hospitality experience is preferred.
• Basic to good knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance.
• Ability to identify faults, carry out basic troubleshooting, and complete repairs safely and efficiently.
• Good understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
