Job Description

REPORTING LINE: Mechanical Engineering Manger

The Engineering Assistant is responsible for providing engineering support activities related to the design of custom busbar assemblies. Busbar is primarily an Engineered-to-Order (ETO) product, which means each customer order is specifically engineered to meet customer requirements. This generally leads to greater complexity and variation for the departments supporting this product family. The Engineering Assistant will be responsible for design documentation, engineering support related to ERP activities, and BOM management and control using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and manufacturing systems. This role will involve supporting cross-functional teams throughout the design phase and release process, working closely with internal stakeholders such as Project Managers and key factory personnel. The Engineering Assistant will work closely with the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Global Sustaining Engineering Manager, and engineering team members to provide production support for ETO assemblies as needed. The role will also help assess and implement solutions that positively impact production and quality while participating in internal design reviews.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a liaison between Engineering and Planning to ensure projects are ready for production.
  • Track the MCC and CADMT schedule and highlight the schedule deviation to meet project timelines.
  • Support Mechanical Engineering team with scheduling design reviews and prototype reviews.
  • Track the changes mentioned in the prototype review/Sample review reports in Engineering drawings.
  • Review and verify engineering drawings for BOM accuracy and ensure they are correctly stored in project folders prior to manufacturing.
  • Ensure Electrical wiring diagrams, Mechanical BOM and production drawing are aligned and consistent.
  • Verify and generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for the Busbar product lines, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Create and manage new parts within the Oracle for the product lines, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.
  • Support Mechanical Engineering team members with BOM upload in the Oracle.
  • Track Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Deviations through Global Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and processes to ensure timely completion and deployment in multiple regional Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools.
  • Review ECOs for completeness and assign applicable tasks to fully process the ECO through the PLM systems.
  • Maintain PLM system integrity (adhere to document standards and procedures).
  • Establish and maintain document control systems for Mechanical Engineering Team.
  • Responsible for documentation methods that ensure high levels of productivity and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product standardization initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Proven experience and familiarity with Engineering Drawings and product BOM.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI) and experience utilizing ERP systems.
  • Experience in creating and sustaining structured bills of materials in PLM and ERP systems required.
