Job Description

Structural Engineering Lead will oversee the design, analysis, and manufacturing integration of structural systems and assemblies supporting engineered products and infrastructure. This role is critical in bridging structural product development with scalable, high-quality manufacturing, ensuring structures are designed for strength, stability, durability, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong structural engineering background, hands-on experience with production and fabrication processes, and proven leadership in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the structural design and manufacturing integration of products and assemblies throughout the full product lifecycle.

• Guide engineering teams on material selection, load paths, structural integrity, fatigue life, and safety factors.

• Ensure compliance with structural performance, load ratings, seismic/wind requirements, durability, and applicable codes and standards.

• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to implement robust, repeatable fabrication and assembly processes.

• Drive DFM/DFA activities for frames, enclosures, skids, supports, brackets, and load-bearing assemblies.

• Support tooling, fixturing, welding, bolting, and assembly process development tailored to structural production.

• Oversee 3D modeling, tolerance stack-ups, weld details, fastener specifications, and detailed engineering documentation.

• Perform and review structural simulations and calculations (e.g., FEA, hand calcs) to validate design assumptions and code compliance.

• Evaluate cost, weight, strength, and manufacturability trade-offs across design alternatives.

• Define and support validation protocols for structural testing, including load testing, vibration, fatigue, and environmental exposure.

• Interpret test results and drive corrective actions to meet structural performance and safety goals.

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of structural engineers, designers, and technicians.

• Coordinate schedules, priorities, and deliverables to align with production, construction, and program milestones.

• Report on design maturity, structural risks, and mitigation plans to senior leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with a structural emphasis (Master’s preferred).

• 7+ years of structural engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a lead or manufacturing-focused role.

• Strong understanding of structural analysis, statics, dynamics, fatigue, and material behavior (steel, aluminum, concrete, composites).

• Proficiency with structural CAD and analysis tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS, Abaqus, SAP2000, STAAD, or similar).

• Experience with fabrication and manufacturing processes including welding, bolted connections, CNC machining, forming, and assembly.

• Background in industrial structures, equipment frames, modular systems, data center infrastructure, or heavy equipment.

• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., AISC, ASME, AWS, Eurocode, ISO, IBC).

• Experience with ERP/PLM systems, BOM management, and product lifecycle workflows.

• Exposure to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.

• Demonstrated leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and strong communication skills.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• 7+ years of structural engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a lead or manufacturing-focused role.
