Under nominal direction, this position is accountable for managing or supervising and implementing engineering functions of a major division, program, or activities including budgeting, staffing, development of policies and procedures, and providing support to accomplish overall goals and objectives of the City of Austin.

Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

This position will lead and supervise the Open Channel Engineering team within the Creek Flood and Erosion Division of the Project Design and Delivery Branch within Austin Watershed Protection. The mission of Watershed Protection is to protect lives, property, and the environment from the impacts of flooding, erosion, and stormwater pollution. The purpose of the Project Design and Delivery Branch (PDD) is to provide efficient and effective project delivery services for in-house and capital improvement program (CIP) projects that accomplish WPD mission priorities. The Open Channel Engineering team is a design team that delivers CIP and in-house projects. In-house design projects are assigned for all missions (flood, erosion, and water quality) and drainage assets (pipes, ponds, and channels). CIP projects generally focus on open channel, detention pond, and creek assets. The team's supervisor is integral to the team's ability to navigate the project delivery process.
The supervisor of this team will have the opportunity to fully charter the Open Channel Engineering program using the Department's recently completed Channel Asset Management Plan to implement projects that are not prioritized through the other mission programs. This supervisor will collaborate with the supervising engineers for the Creek Flood Risk Reduction and Stream Restoration teams to collaborate on projects that can accomplish multiple mission goals.

40 hours per week, Monday – Friday with the ability for a 60% telework schedule within a two-week period after initial training period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.
