Georgia Power, Plant Bowen, Engineering Department
Position will be located in Euharlee, Georgia

- Position is located in Euharlee, Georgia
- This position will require a mix of both office and onsite field work
of Position Duties
This engineer will be responsible for engineering related activities in support of and that include project oversight, contractor oversight, and contract oversight (or Long-term service agreement (LTSA)) at Plant Bowen’s Combined Cycle units. This position is responsible for providing plant technical support and developing long-term plans and budgets to maintain and improve equipment performance. LTSA Engineers manage small and large capital and O&M projects, follow prescribed procedures and, under direct supervision, conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems and components.
Education Requirements
- B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required
- B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical degree preferred
Work Experience Requirements
- 3-5 years of LTSA oversight experience preferred
- 3-5 years of Combined Cycle experience preferred
- Proven problem-solving experience
- Ability to work with team members on maintenance and/or operation of the following types of equipment: pumps, motors, air/motor operated valves, manual valves, fans, condensers, boilers, HRSG’s and turbines
- Experience working with or on electrical systems that may include the following equipment: variable frequency drives, DC emergency power systems including battery chargers, uninterruptible power supplies, fast transfer and maintenance switches, switchgear, excitation systems, and generator support
- Experience with controls systems that include the following: electronics, instrumentation, program configuration, distributed/process control systems, and PLCs
Job Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee service agreements and contracts, in particular Long Term Service Agreements
- Outage/project management, project budget management, long-term maintenance strategies development, procedure development
- Provide general technical support to the plant
- Monitor plant performance and make recommendations to improve heat rate
- Utilize computer business tools to develop and justify budgets, write work orders, order material, develop project schedules, and monitor equipment
- Initiate, troubleshoot and review root cause analyses for system equipment failures
- Work with Southern Company Services, OEM's and system owners at other plants to stay current of any upgrades or concerns that affect the plant and communicate these needs to plant management, corporate management, and peer groups
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proven leadership skills
- Good oral/written communication skills and ability to work effectively with varied individuals (craft personnel, support staff, supervisory staff, and management) is a must
- Strong organizational, administrative, time management, project management, facilitation and analytical skills are required
- Knowledge and experience with personal computers and the ability to learn numerous software applications quickly
- Self-motivation and demonstrated initiative is crucial for this position
- Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company
