Role Purpose

The Engineer, Software Developer supports Corning’s Model Operations Development Engineering team by contributing to the design, development, and support of software tools and web applications that enable scientific research and innovation. This is an early-career opportunity for a software engineer or recent graduate looking to grow full stack development skills in a collaborative technical environment. The role partners with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver practical, scalable solutions across backend services, user-facing applications, and data-driven tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Develop and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Python frameworks such as Django or Flask
  • Contribute to frontend development using modern JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js or React
  • Work with relational databases to support application functionality and data-driven features
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional teams to translate technical needs into software solutions
  • Support application troubleshooting, enhancements, and continuous improvement efforts
  • Participate in Agile workflows, code reviews, and development best practices

Experiences/Education – Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience
  • Experience building software or web applications through coursework, internships, co-ops, or project work
  • Foundational experience with object-oriented programming, preferably in Python
  • Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar
  • Experience using Git or other version control tools
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and contribute in a team-based development environment

Experiences/Education – Desired

  • Experience with Django or Flask for backend development
  • Familiarity with frontend frameworks such as Vue.js or React
  • Exposure to Docker or containerization concepts
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Internship, co-op, research, or project experience in a collaborative technical environment

The range for this position is $75,038.00 - $103,178.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
