The Regional Category Management Engineer executes regional sourcing strategies and manages assigned DSS direct-material suppliers to improve cost, quality, delivery, supply continuity, and inventory. The role partners with Global Category Management and cross-functional teams to support sustaining production and a smooth transition from new product development to volume production.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Regional Category Management, this individual-contributor role supports assigned DSS direct-material categories, suppliers, and Molex sites across the region, primarily for sustaining production. You will work closely with Global Category Management, NPD Sourcing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Finance, while engaging suppliers and business partners to deliver competitive sourcing, reliable supply, strong supplier performance, while creating an agile time-to market procurement vision.

What You Will Do
- Category Strategy & Commercial Management
- Execute assigned regional category and sourcing activities in alignment with Global Category Management and DSS business priorities.
- Support quotation reviews, commercial negotiations, purchasing-term improvements, cost-reduction projects, and VA/VE opportunities throughout sustaining production and end-of-life.
- Supplier & Components Readiness (NPI end-to-end accountability)
- Partner with NPD Sourcing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Finance during the NPI phase to align sourcing strategy, supplier selection, quotation status, commercial terms, qualification plans, and project milestones.
- Drive supplier readiness for launch by confirming capacity, lead time, material availability, tooling, cost, quality requirements, product compliance completeness, qualification status, and delivery plans; identify gaps and coordinate timely corrective actions.
- Ensure a smooth handover from NPD through volume production applying a collaborative NPI tactical approach by establishing clear ownership, closing open sourcing and supplier actions, transferring relevant data and commitments, and confirming supply continuity, cost, quality, capacity, and inventory readiness.
- Supplier Management & Performance Improvement
- Manage day-to-day supplier activities and improve cost, quality, delivery, service, and overall supplier performance.
- Support supplier performance reviews, corrective actions, and development activities in collaboration with Quality and SQA, always applying an agile product readiness mind setting.
- Supply Assurance, Inventory & Project Reporting
- Implement supply-risk mitigation actions, including alternate sourcing, dual-source qualification, capacity follow-up, and business continuity planning from a regional supply chain footprint.
- Monitor demand, capacity, lead time, and inventory trends; work with Supply Chain and suppliers to address shortages, excess inventory, and delivery risks.
- Maintain accurate supplier and sourcing data, prepare regular reports, and coordinate assigned cost, supplier-development, and supply-assurance projects.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
4-5 bulleted, objective, non-comparable requirements are recommended
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
- At least three years of procurement, sourcing, or category-management experience, preferably with direct materials in an electronics or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in supplier management, commercial negotiation, cost reduction, supply risk mitigation, and cross-functional project execution.
- Demonstrated experience in material expediting for new product launches, including shortage tracking, supplier recovery-plan management, priority alignment, escalation, and delivery follow-through to protect build schedules.
- Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office, and project-tracking tools, with the ability to monitor purchase orders, material availability, supplier commitments, inventory, quality holds, and launch risks, and communicate concise status updates with actions, owners, and due dates.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, influencing, communication, and organizational skills; fluent business English and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 20–30% based on business needs.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Supply Chain practical experience with liquid cooling, connectors, cables, mechanical components, or electronic components.
- Demonstrated supplier-performance improvement, cost-reduction, NPD transition, alternate-sourcing, or supplier-qualification experience.
- Experience in a global or multi-site manufacturing environment and with Ariba or other e-sourcing platforms.
- MBA or another relevant graduate degree.
