About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Supervisor, the Engineer, Mining is responsible for developing and optimizing strategic long-range plans to sustain and extend the Life of Mine at Fording River Operations. The role involves executing all aspects of long-range planning including: pit, spoil and haul road design optimizations, life of mine schedules, strategic evaluations, all while considering potential impacts to sustainable development. This role is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to make a positive impact on the business.

This person has strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and is dedicated to continuous improvement. Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Engineers-in-Training as part of a collaborative team environment
Execute on a wide range of mine planning including pit, spoil, haulage and closure design while considering potential sustainable development impacts
Perform iterative production scheduling from KPI analysis to estimated coal blending results
Influence strong site decision making through detailed data analysis and sound mining practices
Perform economic evaluations, long range capital consolidation, productivity analyses, strategic planning assessments, and peer reviews
Communicate mine development projects to the permitting groups within the business unit. Assist in developing mine permit applications and amendments and ensure mine plans are following permit compliance
Participate in the development of annual reserves and resource reporting
Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum five years of experience in mine planning
Professional Engineering Designation
Proficiency in mine scheduling software such as XPAC Solutions, and mine design software such as Minesight 3D
Solid understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite®
Motivated self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
