We are now looking for two new colleagues to join the Process Design Team in the UPM Next Generation Technology Unit. Depending on your experience and aspirations, you could join us as a Senior Engineer, Process Development (m/f/d) or a Manager, Process Development (m/f/d).

What you will do

  • Create and improve new and existing biorefining process concepts based on economic performance and sustainability considerations
  • Participate in all phases of technology development and investment projects – from early-stage concept development to implementation (e.g. scale-up and scale down)
  • Collaborate with technology experts, R&D, engineering, production sites, and external partners (e.g. engineering companies, equipment vendors)
  • Translate innovation ideas into practical development plans and scalable process solutions
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external workstreams, while also contributing directly to process development activities
  • Support the development of sustainable, high-performance biorefining technologies and document key learnings (e.g. basis of design, process design packages, etc.)

Who you are

  • You have a degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • You bring extensive experience in process design and development, preferably in biorefining, chemical, or process industries
  • You have experience in conceptual process design, technology development, process engineering, and working with external engineering partners
  • You have experience with process simulation tools (e.g. Aspen Plus, HYSYS)
  • You are fluent in English and work well with others, bringing strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • You are comfortable with the uncertainties (and excitement!) of technology development

The position is located in Helsinki or Lappeenranta, Finland or Leuna, Germany.

The position holder will report to Director, Process Design.
