This is a full-time time position of 40 hours per week.
The remuneration range for this role is $86,230 to $121,736 (including KiwiSaver). We anticipate paying around the midpoint.
The opportunity
In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring new developments (e.g. over 100 lots) integrate seamlessly with our 3 Waters networks, supporting growth while protecting long‑term infrastructure outcomes. This is a varied and influential role that combines technical engineering assessment, stakeholder engagement, and development coordination.
You will:
Assess development‑related applications, including resource consents, network connections, and subdivision approvals
Provide clear, practical 3 Waters servicing advice aligned with regional standards
Coordinate Wellington Water input into major developments and growth projects
Review developer designs and construction changes for compliance
Support inspections, testing, and asset handover processes
Collaborate with councils, developers, consultants, and internal teams
About you
You’re an engineer or technical professional who enjoys working across organisational boundaries and balancing technical detail with practical delivery.
You’ll bring:
A tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Experience in Three Waters, land development, infrastructure, or consenting environments
Knowledge of relevant legislation and frameworks such as the RMA and Local Government Act
Strong communication and relationship‑management skills
The ability to assess technical information and apply sound engineering judgement
A collaborative, solutions‑focused approach

About us
Wellington Water Ltd is the professional water services provider across Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa. Our job is to provide safe and healthy drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, and ensure the stormwater network is well managed. We’re a multi-council owned entity, tasked to manage the infrastructure and deliver water services to our communities. From 1 July 2026, a new chapter in water services begins. Tiaki Wai will take over responsibility for providing Three Waters Services to approximately 433,000 residents across the Wellington metro regions.
Tiaki Wai will own the water assets it operates giving it greater independence to manage and improve water services for current and future communities, Wellington Water employees will transition into this new council-owned entity.

Wellington Water is a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) that manages the water infrastructure assets on behalf of Wellington, Hutt, Upper Hutt and Porirua city councils, South Wairarapa District Council, and Greater Wellington Regional Council, from source to sea.
