Who We’re Looking For

Toyota’s Internal Logistics Engineering Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Engineer with strong Internal Logistics Engineering capability and experience supporting or leading core pilot teams.

This role is intended for an engineer who can lead complex internal logistics and automation initiatives, influence cross‑functional stakeholders, and help define scalable, standardized solutions for future Toyota manufacturing programs.

Reporting to the Internal Logistics Manager, the person in this role will support the department’s objective to optimize the Toyota North America supply chain by balancing the needs of external logistics, Production Engineering planning, and manufacturing groups to develop the most efficient and robust internal delivery processes.

The work location for this position will be at TMMTX in San Antonio, TX.

What You’ll Be Doing

Project & Technical Leadership

• Lead and support cross‑functional Internal Logistics Engineering projects, working closely with TMNA Engineering groups and North American Manufacturing Companies (NAMC) to troubleshoot and improve parts flow related to New Model Management (NMM) and major production changes.
• Serve as a technical lead for internal logistics process design, including routing, delivery frequency, returns handling, and space utilization, with consideration for automation readiness and future scalability.
• Guide teams in breaking down the ideal condition vs. current condition, applying structured problem‑solving to identify gaps and implement effective countermeasures that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Automation & Systems Integration

• Lead or support internal logistics automation initiatives, including automated delivery systems, material handling equipment, and digital tools that improve material flow, visibility, and stability.
• Collaborate with PE, Pilot Engineers, and NAMC stakeholders to define functional requirements, automation concepts, and system specifications that align with production processes and takt requirements.
• Evaluate automation opportunities by analyzing material movement, information flow, manpower, ergonomics, and cost, ensuring solutions are practical, maintainable, and aligned with Toyota Way principles.
• Ensure automation and logistics systems are standardized, compliant, and scalable, supporting future plant expansions and new model introductions.

Data, KPIs & Process Management

• Develop and execute strategies to commonize and consolidate internal logistics data and KPIs, including internal delivery performance, routing efficiency, returns handling, and system uptime.
• Use data to support daily management, abnormality detection, and root cause analysis, enabling faster problem resolution and continuous improvement.
• Support the creation and deployment of standard work, visual management, and documentation for internal logistics processes and automation systems.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant engineering work experience
• Strong Internal Logistics Engineering background, including routing, delivery methods, space planning, and material handling systems
• AutoCAD experience, including layout design, floor plans, flow visualization, and use of XRefs
• 1+ year of TMNA MBO or 5+ years of NAMC Logistics experience as a Toyota Team Member or Contractor experience in these groups.
• Microsoft Excel experience with the ability to build structured data, perform analysis
• 1+ year of Project management experience, with demonstrated ability to manage scope, timing, and cross‑functional coordination
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence without authority and align diverse stakeholders

Added Bonus if you have

• Participation in Jishuken or Kaizen/TPS activities.
• Experience developing Material and Information Flow Charts (MIFC)
• Direct experience working with automation vendors such as Bastian, MiR, Auit, or similar suppliers, including requirements definition, layout review.
• Experience with using PLC programming, U-Flame Ignition, Ant Lab, Bluebotics and other automation control software and hardware.
• Current or previous Internal Logistics Pilot Planning role, with hands‑on experience supporting pilot builds and transitioning pilot concepts into mass production logistics systems
