Job Description

Power Your Future with Qualus in our T&D Canada business as an Engineer in Training - Transmission Line. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Transmission Lines, this position will be based in either our Vancouver BC or Calgary AB office. Responsibilities

  • Supporting engineering projects by performing engineering calculations, developing detailed plan and profile design drawings, modeling using the highly specialized, custom-purpose software: PLS-CADD.
  • Assist senior engineers by performing electrical studies that include EMF, Audible Noise, Radio Interference, Grounding, Step & Touch Potentials, AC Interference of pipelines and railways, Conductor Ampacity, Corona, Line Impedance Parameters, Fault calculations, using CDEGS and MATHCAD.
  • Preparing technical engineering reports and memos.
  • Designing structures for high voltage transmission lines using PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
  • Design work of overhead transmission lines.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation of designs and calculations.
  • Undertaking in-depth analysis/studies of problems and identifying solutions.
  • Traveling and visiting project sites as per project requirements.
  • Assist senior engineers with developing and implementing specifications, standards, templates, and engineering tools.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university and/or eligibility for registration with EGBC or APEGA.
  • Good communication, adaptability, teamwork and multi-tasking skills.
  • Take initiative in learning and researching new topics and materials.
  • 1 plus year of transmission line engineering experience is an asset.
  • Experience with PLS–CADD/PLS-POLE is an asset.
  • Knowledge of electrical aspects of power transmission system.
  • Prior experience with CDEGS, academic background on EMF and AC Interference are an asset.
  • Knowledge of transmission line materials (structures, conductors/OHSW, OPGW/ADSS, insulators, hardware accessories and fittings) is an asset.
