About The Department

The Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY) provides Engineering, Design, and Logistics life cycle support to all fleet submarines, the Moored Training Ships, and the S8G Prototype. The organization maintains technical expertise for nuclear and non-nuclear propulsion plant systems and equipment. Our mission is to provide the U.S. Navy five-star support that increases submarine Operational Availability and Capability.

About This Group

The S8G Prototype Design Agent (PDA) Site Office is located at the Naval Propulsion Training Unit at the Kesselring Site in West Milton, NY. The S8G PDA Site Office provides material support through spare parts provisioning and configuration management for the S8G Prototype and Kesselring Site facilities critical systems. The team also performs liaison services by working closely with Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), the Navy and RPPY personnel to provide design support for alterations, and for resolving technical issues associated with systems and components under Electric Boat cognizance. The S8G PDA Site Office is also responsible for Maintenance and Material Management (3M) Program administration including fulfilling the role of a Navy 3M Coordinator (3MC).

In this position, individuals are responsible for the technical review, development and maintenance of S8G Prototype and Kesselring Site facilities systems Provisioning Technical Documentation (PTD). This position is important to the Kesselring Site’s primary mission of delivering highly trained Sailors to the fleet in support of our country’s defense and security. This is accomplished through ensuring material readiness with the correct parts, configuration and maintenance guidelines.

The individual must be able to obtain and maintain qualifications in accordance with Article 107 (Limited Radiation Worker) of NAVSEA 389-0288 (Radiological Controls Manual).

Key Responsibilties:

  • Assess Logistics Liaison Action Requests in the Consolidated Problem Reporting system and direct provisioning actions accordingly
  • Review technical and procurement data (e.g., drawings, vendor literature, material history, technical manuals, historical problem reports, maintenance requirements) to ensure spare parts provisioning documentation meets design requirements and specifications and identify suitable replacement components where the original equipment is obsolete
  • Provide ongoing technical support for legacy, current and future logistics issues
  • Interface with System Engineers, Program Office, Management, and NAVSEA Customers
  • Ensure that PTDs are technically correct and issued within the budget and time constraints of the schedule, while maintaining quality, to meet project deadlines
  • Internally track workflow of products, create lean processes where warranted, and develop ways to improve production
  • Review Engineering Field Changes and assess for provisioning impacts

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or an equivalent technical field
  • 1-5 years of professional experience
  • Active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred:

  • Prior U.S. Navy experience
  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Experience with Naval Nuclear power
  • Familiarity with Reactor and Propulsion Plant Systems and System Diagrams
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawing views (e.g., Plan, Section, Elevation)

Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; particularly Word and Excel
  • The candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter possessing strong analytical, writing, organization and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to identify problems, discern their key elements and apply problem solving techniques and skills to achieve prompt and effective resolutions is an essential skill set
  • The ability to communicate clearly, professionally and be comfortable interfacing directly with varied levels of management both verbally and in writing
  • The ability to work independently with attention to detail and accuracy in a schedule driven multi-tasking environment
