Job's mission

As an Engineer II, Equipment Engineering at ASM, you will support the development, installation, and stable operation of advanced R&D equipment in new product development.
This role is ideal for engineers who have a strong understanding of semiconductors equipment support and are ready to deepen their hands-on technical expertise within a collaborative R&D environment.

You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and performance, contributing directly to the successful execution of new product design and development activities

What you will be working on

  • Support installation, upgrade, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of R&D equipment during new product development
  • Assist with first builds, bring-up, and testing of new products in collaboration with R&D and facilities teams
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis to restore and maintain equipment performance and uptime
  • Support daily operation and monitoring of R&D lab equipment to ensure stable and reliable tool performance
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Electrical, Process, and Software engineers during equipment development and integration phases
  • Follow established best-known methods (BKM) and support documentation of service, preventive, and corrective maintenance procedures
  • Adhere to safety standards and standard operating procedures in all equipment-related activities
  • Escalate complex or recurring equipment issues to senior engineers as appropriate and support resolution efforts
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and usability

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • 5-6+ years of relevant experience in the semiconductor industry supporting equipment in R&D, lab, or manufacturing environments
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor equipment installation, maintenance, or troubleshooting
  • Basic understanding of wafer fab operations, gas and vacuum systems, and equipment control concepts
  • Familiarity with cleanroom or laboratory environments and safe handling of chemicals, gases, or related systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Korean and work collaboratively across engineering teams

What sets you apart

  • Experience with deposition equipment such as PEALD, PECVD, or similar thin-film tools
  • Expertise to RF-induced plasma systems, electro-pneumatic controls, robotics, or microprocessor-based controllers
  • Experience supporting early-stage or first-of-kind equipment in an R&D environment
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with a proactive, hands-on approach to problem solving

About ASM

At ASM, we’re shaping the future at the atomic level. We enable the next generation of microchips by empowering leading semiconductor manufacturers with advanced wafer processing equipment.

Through our mastery of thin-film deposition, we create the innovative tools and solutions that shape the materials at the heart of tomorrow’s technology – powering everything from AI and next-generation healthcare to cloud computing and smarter, more energy-efficient devices.

With over 4,600 people representing more than 60 nationalities across 15 locations worldwide, we’re united by one ambition: to stay ahead of what’s next. And with research centers in seven countries and nearly a quarter of our people and profits devoted to research and development, excellence is our baseline, not our finish line.

Our pioneering thin-film deposition technologies – like atomic layer deposition, epitaxy, silicon carbide, chemical vapor deposition and vertical furnaces – help our customers push the limits of performance, speed, and efficiency. Our strong patent portfolio, flat organization, and agile way of working enable fast collaboration, global mobility, and a competitive edge far beyond our scale.

Every day, we work to make integrated circuits smaller, faster, more energy-efficient, and more powerful. Together, we’re advancing technologies that unlock new potential and improve lives.
