Job Description

Power your Future with Qualus as an Engineer II in our Distribution Department. As a Distribution Engineer II, you will provide technical leadership for electric utility distribution projects, including system expansion, resiliency, and infrastructure improvement initiatives. You will develop and review engineering designs using WMS, Pole Foreman, Design Manager/Electric Office, and AutoCAD, while ensuring compliance with utility standards and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will perform QA/QC reviews, mentor junior engineers and designers, and collaborate with clients and project teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and engineering expertise for overhead and underground electrical distribution system projects.
  • Apply client standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements to the design and execution of distribution projects.
  • Support project execution by managing assignments, monitoring performance, resolving technical issues, and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Develop and oversee engineering design packages using client-specific software and design tools, including Distribution Design Studio, Pole Foreman, Design Manager, WMS, and AutoCAD.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering and design deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, quality, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers through training, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to support successful project delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, design standards, team performance, and technical capabilities.
  • Maintain productivity and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related discipline) from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 3-5 years of experience in electric utility distribution engineering and design.
  • Experience designing and supporting overhead and underground distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of utility distribution standards, NESC requirements, and utility construction practices.
  • Proficiency with utility design and work management software, including Pole Foreman, Design Manager/Electric Office, WMS, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and coordinating engineering design packages and construction work orders.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, document management, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical reviews and ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance of engineering deliverables.
