This position will be filled as an Engineer I -Sr based on qualifications.

Purpose

Entergy is incorporating and improving management of distributed energy resources (DERs), developing new and innovative solutions that provide resiliency to customers and responsive to evolving customer needs. The Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) Planning Engineer plays a critical role in this transformation by performing engineering analyses in support of the team’s efforts to plan, design, and implement utility scale and customer-driven solutions that utilize distributed energy resources (DERs) for residential, commercial, and industrial customers across all of Entergy’s electric service territories in Texas, Louisiana, New Orleans, Arkansas, and Mississippi.

This role within the Advanced Network Planning team will focus on performing engineering analyses and planning of DER to assess critical areas such as: interconnection impact studies, hosting capacity, technology adoption sensitivities, future capacity additions, non-wire alternative and microgrid projects, and reliability improvement opportunities. Additionally, the successful candidate will support various company strategic initiatives related to grid modernization and DER integration, provide mentorship to other Entergy employees, and be one of the company’s thought-leaders on all things related to DER engineering. The candidate should have a strong technical background and be comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced, technical environment.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering analyses for DERs related to interconnection impact studies, hosting capacity, customer's adoption forecasting, non-wire alternative and microgrid projects, future capacity additions, and reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Utilize distribution system modeling and analytic techniques to plan for the customer's adoption of technology, while maintaining the integrity of the grid, and translate the results into customer solution roadmaps, standards, and processes.
  • Perform distribution system modeling and analysis focused on DERs such as solar PV, energy storage, demand response, EVs, etc.
  • Model DERs and identify system impact and develop improvement opportunities on voltage, thermal, power factor, power quality, reliability, and contingency events.
  • Work closely with Distribution Standards, distribution regional field engineering, Distribution Asset Planning, Distribution Automation and Protection, Op Co regional customer service, distribution line supervisors, the Distribution Operations Center, and other key stakeholders regarding DER interconnections, emerging technologies, processes, and procedures.
  • Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and monitoring technology developments in the area of power system modeling, simulation, and analytics.
  • Assist with storm restoration efforts in a local, state, or system capacity.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) from four year accredited institution.

Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Master’s in Engineering Discipline.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Engineer I – 0-2 years experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer II – 2+ years experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Engineer III - 4+ years experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Sr Engineer - 6+ years experience in an engineering discipline

Preferred Experience

  • Experience modeling or analyzing Distributed Energy Resources.
  • Experience performing engineering analyses and power flow modeling for a utility or similar organization.
  • Strong engineering analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Thorough understanding of procedures, programs, and standards.
