
The “Senior Engineer I, Stability & Statutory” is primarily responsible for performing engineering and technical review activities related to vessel / offshore unit stability, statutory compliance, and associated marine regulatory requirements. The role may also involve review of structural related documents. The role supports assigned projects by conducting technical plan reviews, engineering analyses, and compliance assessments to ensure conformance with applicable rules, regulations, and international standards. Work may involve major projects or multiple smaller assignments requiring sound engineering judgment, cross-functional coordination, and effective client interaction.
What You Will Do:
With minimal supervision, carry out engineering reviews and independent analyses of Intact and Damage stability booklets, loading manuals and project specific submissions for Ships and Offshore units, as applicable.
Assess compliance with applicable statutory requirements, classification rules, and international regulations.
Review of structural related documents may be an added responsibility based on the types of projects executed.
Coordinate within ABS internal engineering and operations and with external clients, submitters to resolve technical issues.
Provide technical guidance and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders on stability and statutory matters.
Support project execution by managing assigned review activities within agreed schedules and quality expectations.
Prepare technical review documents as per ABS internal quality standards.
Participate in design reviews and discussions involving vessel modifications, new construction, conversions, or special compliance matters.
Maintain awareness of applicable regulatory changes and engineering practices affecting stability and statutory reviews.
Contribute to continuous improvement of ABS technical review processes, procedures, and work instructions.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
At least ten (10) years of relevant stability & statutory experience in a classification society (preferred) / a standard Marine-Offshore design consultancy / Shipyard design office.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to interpret technical drawings, calculations, and engineering documentation with strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
On the job experience with stability software's (GHS / NAPA / SEASAFE etc.). Software knowledge is a must.
On the job experience with the structural FEA software's would be an added advantage.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and coordinate across functions.
Working knowledge of ABS classification rules and IMO statutory requirements.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
The soft skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers
Able to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
Implements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.
A relevant professional engineering society membership or a chartered engineering license would be an added advantage.
Reporting Relationships:
The incumbent will report to a Managing Principal Engineer.
This position has no direct reports.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily sedentary. Occasionally will be required to visit manufacturing plants, remote field sites or go aboard marine vessels or structures. Wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with ABS safety procedures, is required in such occasions.
