Job Description

Engineer – Pre-Production Service (PPS) is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and releasing complete manufacturing documentation packages for Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) to support New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining products.This role serves as a key interface between Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Contract Manufacturers to ensure accurate product documentation, Bill of Materials (BOM), and engineering changes are released in a timely manner to support prototype, pilot, and production builds.The PPS Engineer ensures product data integrity within PLM and ERP systems while supporting efficient product launches and ongoing manufacturing operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Create and maintain Specification Control Drawings (SCD) for PCBAs based on engineering requirements, schematics, layouts, and supporting documentation.
  2. Prepare, review, and release complete PCBA manufacturing packages for internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Maintain and validate PCBA Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure alignment with engineering requirements and manufacturing needs.
  4. Upload and release PCBA Bills of Materials (BOMs) BOMs in PLM and ERP systems.
  5. Perform data verification and validation to ensure consistency and accuracy between drawings, BOMs, PLM records, and ERP records.
  6. Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Enterprise Change Orders (ECOs) by updating documentation, BOMs, and related product records.
  7. Maintain document revision history and configuration traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
  8. Create and maintain PCBA test specifications, rework instructions and conversion documents for global support services.
  9. Familiarity with SMT (Surface Mount Technology) assembly processes and PCBA manufacturing flow practices is an advantage.
  10. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring documentation packages are completed and released according to project milestones.
  11. Identify opportunities to improve documentation processes, BOM accuracy, workflow efficiency, and system utilization.
  12. Adhere to organizational requirements on quality management, health and safety, code of conduct, legal stipulations, environmental, 5S policies and general duty of care.
  13. Protect confidential information related to products, technology, manufacturing processes, suppliers, and business operations.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have proven drafting and illustrating skills utilizing software packages such as graphics design tools, photo editing tools, document publishing tools, and drafting tools.
  • Basic understanding of SMT manufacturing processes, including solder paste printing, component placement, reflow soldering, inspection, and rework methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, Gerber files, and technical specifications.
  • Must be familiar with ANSI and IPC standards.
  • Must have organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled at communicating with design teams and PCBA vendors.
  • Ability to work independently.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years’ experience in PCBA documentation, NPI, configuration management, product data management, or electronics manufacturing.
  • Familiar with Altium Designer and Adobe Illustrator software.
  • Familiar with PLM and SAP applications.
  • Knowledge of SMT (Surface Mount Technology) assembly processes and PCBA manufacturing are an advantage.
  • Experience supporting NPI, prototype, pilot, or production manufacturing environments is preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Basic “Drafting to ANSI Standards” class.
