Job Description

This is the first level of the Engineering classification where you will provide engineering/technical expertise to solve problems in a specific area of expertise, with close supervision. You will develop skills in your field of study, and the ability to work with greater independence.

Essential Functions:

Under close supervision, you will provide:

  • Engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems
  • Effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
  • Detailed and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
  • Continuous improvement of job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance
  • Accurate records and files
  • Support of Pike Engineering's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
  • Participate in storm restoration activities as need

Minimum Requirements:

  • Regular attendance is required
  • Bachelor's degree from an EAC/ABET accredited Engineering Program OR an approved evaluation of non-ABET credentials by NCEES OR graduation from a Master's or Doctoral Program in Engineering from an institution with EAC/ABET accredited Undergraduate Engineering Programs
  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles
  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Understanding of basic electricity and power quality
  • Knowledge of Distribution construction standards and methods

Other Abilities:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Received a passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
  • Understanding of basic principles of project management
  • Knowledge of the utility industry

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this role.

This position combines office and field work. In the office, it involves regular sitting, frequent computer and tool use, and continuous communication. In the field, employees work in outdoor environments such as roadside areas and construction sites, often on uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions.

The role requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, perform activities such as reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, or kneeling, and lift up to 10 pounds regularly. Visual abilities including close and distance vision, color distinction, peripheral vision, and depth perception are necessary.

Regular travel to job sites, including occasional overnight stays and emergency response work, may be required. A strong focus on safety, adaptability, and teamwork is essential.

Work Environment:

Your work will involve a mix of office and field work. While most duties are performed in a typical office setting, you may occasionally perform work outdoors in various weather conditions and in areas that you or others elevate or deem hazardous.
