Job Description

Steering Design & Release Engineer is responsible to design, develop, validate, and release parts under his/her responsibility for the assigned programs. The D&R focus is on designing quality components having a cost-efficient focus. The Steering D&R must design parts compliant with Corporate and Local Requirements, consider the WCR (Worldwide Customer Requirements), ES (Engineering Specification) and SDS (System Design Specification) as well as Manufacturing and Assembly requirements. The engineer is also responsible for parts incorporation at the Assembly Plants. Steering D&R is responsible for evaluating the engineering changes requested by supplier base and ensure there are no adverse effects to Manufacturing and Assembly process. Steering D&R needs to define failure modes, root causes, and use tools like CAE, bench, HIL, etc, to define the best solution suited for each condition. Steering D&R is responsible as well to monitor warranties for steering components, and work through design, and/or process to solve and prevent recurrence of similar warranties.

1. Understand and apply Ford's steering development process

2. Responsible for D&R of steering, within Ford of Mexico

3. Comply with Program cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing targets.

4. Understand and apply GPDS process.

5. Follow Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Failure Mode Avoidance).

6. Knowledge and application of Six Sigma and 8D.

7. Develop ESOW (Engineering Statement of Work) and participate in the Sourcing Process (SA, ED&T review, piece and tooling cost review and CPA).

8. Follow the TDR process (Technical Design Review).

9. Release parts in FEDEBOM and WERS through the product life cycle.

10. Support the Change Control Process.

11. Audit and update BOM (Bill of Material) with correct part levels and usage, for prototype builds and maintain it post Job 1.

12. Be aware of Worldwide Engineering changes and proceed accordingly.

13. Identify validation, durability and functional test required as per SDS, WCR & ES (DVP / FEDE).

14. AIMS and VVT resolution (Launch issues resolution).

15. Define and verify engineering prototypes requirements at part level.

16. Parts implementation/Sign-off in assembly plant & assistance with quality issues in all milestones.

17. PDL's revisions and proceed accordingly if affected.

18. Support VQR's, VRT's and PVT, as required.

19. Jointly purchasing, identify potential suppliers to develop identified parts to be localized.

20. Jointly STA give technical assistance to suppliers through the Supplier Engagement Process.

21. Comply with objectives set during first quarter of the year.

22. Interact with Vehicle Dynamics, Program teams, CAD, CAE, Quality,

Suppliers, and Vehicle Engineering.

23. Warranty analysis, root cause identification, ICA and PCA identification, supplier tracking.

24. Support steering team around the globe with suppliers located in Mexico, tracking actions, manufacturing facility visit, GPDS's phases support.

25. Cost reduction actions, identify, develop, validate, and implement cost reduction actions.

• High level English proficiency

• Knowledge and experience in hydraulic steering system.

• Desired: Power steering hydraulic pumps (not limited).

• CATIA (Basic working knowledge)

• Quality tools APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, MSA.
