Manlove Field is a natural gas storage facility in Champaign County, Illinois, where natural gas is stored approximately 4,000 feet underground in sedimentary rock formations. The facility can store 36.5 Bcf of natural gas and also includes liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage. LNG is stored at -260°F in two insulated tanks, each with a capacity of approximately 12 million gallons, equivalent to 1 Bcf of natural gas when vaporized. The facility relies on complex on-site equipment and processes, including gas compression, dehydration, transportation, thermal swing adsorption, waste water management, liquefaction, and vaporization, to support natural gas storage, retrieval, and delivery to Chicago.
The Engineering team includes five engineers who serve as process owners and site technical staff responsible for equipment reliability, integrity assessment, operational planning, energy control procedure creation and complex engineering projects at Manlove Gas Storage. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the engineers plan, develop, coordinate, and execute projects that require engineering and project management expertise. They also support department work as needed, including engineering design, construction and material specifications, management of change, project budget monitoring, and contractor oversight.
The Engineer serves as process owner for assigned Manlove Storage Field systems and supports safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of storage field assets.
