As a Mechanical Design Engineer (Fixture Design), your primary objective is to support validation and product development teams through the design, development, and continuous improvement of test fixtures, automation equipment, and laboratory tools. You will be responsible for ensuring fixture designs meet performance, safety, reliability, and usability requirements while enabling efficient and repeatable validation activities for current and future business needs.

You are joining a validation organization that is expanding its capabilities in liquid cooling, cable and connector validation, reliability testing, and laboratory automation. Our team focuses on building technical excellence through engineering innovation, process improvement, and automation. As a Fixture Design Engineer, you will work closely with validation engineers, technicians, product development teams, and external suppliers to develop robust testing solutions that improve efficiency, data quality, and overall laboratory capability.
What You Will Do
- Fixture Design and Development: Design, develop, and maintain mechanical fixtures, test equipment, and tooling used for validation, reliability, and engineering testing activities.
- 3D Modeling and Engineering Documentation: Create detailed 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation to support fabrication and qualification activities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with validation engineers, product design engineers, and laboratory personnel to understand testing requirements and develop practical testing solutions.
- Supplier Coordination: Coordinate with external suppliers and machine shops regarding fabrication, quotation review, technical discussions, and fixture modifications.
- Prototype Development and Validation: Support prototype builds, fixture debugging, qualification activities, and design verification to ensure equipment performs as intended.
- Automation and Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency through automation, fixture standardization, and equipment enhancements.
- Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis: Investigate fixture-related issues, perform engineering analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and performance.
- Knowledge Transfer and Documentation: Develop design standards, best practices, and documentation to support team knowledge sharing and long-term capability development.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design, fixture design, tooling development, automation equipment design, or related engineering work.
- Proficient in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Inventor, or equivalent mechanical design tools.
- Experience creating detailed engineering drawings, GD&T documentation, and manufacturing specifications.
- Strong understanding of mechanical components, materials, tolerancing, machining processes, and assembly methods.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations related to structural strength, vibration, load analysis, and mechanical performance.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across engineering teams and suppliers.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience designing validation fixtures for connector, cable assembly, liquid cooling, or data center products.
- Experience with laboratory automation equipment, robotic systems, motion control systems, or custom machine design.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, additive manufacturing, and rapid prototyping.
- Knowledge of FEA tools such as SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or equivalent analysis software.
- Experience with instrumentation integration including sensors, actuators, pneumatic systems, and data acquisition equipment.
- Experience supporting reliability testing such as vibration, thermal shock, mechanical cycling, or environmental testing.
- Experience developing standardized fixture platforms that can be reused across multiple projects.
- Track record of leading fixture development projects and mentoring junior engineers.
