As an E ngineer Database – Level 3 or Level 4 located in Redondo Beach, CA, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Engineer to lead the design, modernization, and optimization of our high-consequence database environments in Redondo Beach, CA. In this role, you will own the full data lifecycle—from engineering high-availability virtualized SQL Server 2022 infrastructures to implementing cross-domain data solutions and supporting robust Earned Value Management (EVM) data warehousing systems. Serving as the vital bridge between complex business needs and secure technical execution, you will translate operational requirements into scalable data pipelines and high-performance Power BI analytics across isolated, multi-domain networks

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design and Model: Guide the logical and conceptual relationships of data and database changes for complex applications.
  • Analyze Systems: Evaluate the needs and requirements of existing and proposed data systems.
  • Provide Architecture Guidance: Recommend industry best practices for database tools, collaboration suites, and reusable architectural components.
  • Stakeholder Management: Engage and influence key stakeholders to support core organizational objectives.
  • Translate Requirements: Interface directly with non-technical clients to translate business needs into technical data models.
  • Optimize Performance: Create standards and modeling practices to monitor and enhance the capacity of SQL and reporting servers.
  • Maintain Infrastructure: Monitor server loads, manage automated scripts, and execute advanced calculations on complex data sets.
  • Business Intelligence Support: Assist in developing Power BI dashboards to meet organizational goals.
  • Mentor Staff: Provide technical help, code reviews, and architectural guidance to junior development team members.
  • Project Ownership: Own long-term projects and rapidly iterate on visualizations and dashboards as business needs shift.
  • Virtualization & Clustering: Architect, manage, and maximize performance for virtualized Windows Server 2022 and SQL Server 2022 infrastructures, including Failover Cluster Instances (FCI).
  • Data Pipelines: Build and maintain ETL pipelines using SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or dbt.
  • Database Management: Design and manage relational and tabular databases across SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Cloud & Network Migration: Migrate on-premises SQL Servers to virtualized cloud ecosystems and transition complex systems across secure domains and networks.
  • Cross-Domain Engineering: Implement cross-domain data solutions across multiple secure networks.
  • EPM System Administration: Provide back-end administration for Deltek Cobra and wInsight, including data warehousing and integration with Microsoft Project data.
  • Data Protection: Manage automated backups, data retention policies, performance tuning, and disaster recovery plans.
  • COTS Maintenance: Transfer and install software updates for COTS tools (Empower, PowerBI Desktop/Report Server, Deltek Cobra, wInsight, EPM).
  • Other duties as assigned

This position can be filled at either a Level 3 or Level 4.

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.
  • Requires an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance with an active Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph at time of application
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Experience with data analytics and back-end database management for Power BI

Basic Qualifications for Level 4:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
  • Requires an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance with an active Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph at time of application
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS.
  • Experience with data analytics and back-end database management for Power BI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Auditing and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) hardening protocols.
  • Strong background writing DAX queries, MDX, or advanced T-SQL development.
  • Experience with Deltek Cobra and Deltek wInsight.
  • Knowledge of Internet Information Services (IIS), REST API integration, and JSON/XML parsing for upcoming web-based Deltek Cobra administration.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence).
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar.
  • Prior experience in Project Control, Earned Value Management (EVM), or Data Science.

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
