Performs skilled preventive maintenance tasks on medical equipment. This equipment is connected to patients or is used to diagnose disease. The equipment handled includes Defibrillators, Cardiac Monitors, Infant Care Centers, Incubators, Infusion Pumps, Audiometers, Electrosurgical Units, Microscopes, Spirometers, Dental, Anesthesia Units, etc. Work is performed on equipment throughout hospital medical facilities. Subject to schedule On-Call for medical equipment emergencies.

Ensure the safe and effective functioning of all patient care equipment throughout NMC hospital.
To oversee the installation and commissioning of all new medical equipment in the hospital.
To attend Breakdown calls and carry out repairing of Medical Equipment’s.
Ensure 24 / 7 On – call support.
Fix the Preventive maintenance schedule and monitor the timely completion to ensure the upkeep of all equipment’s to its proper and uninterrupted working performance
Fix the calibration schedule and monitor timely completion to ensure patient safety and result accuracy.
To communicate and follow, with company engineers for repairing and maintenance of equipment’s which are under warranty or contract.
To provide operating training of equipment’s, to end-users and evaluate the effectiveness of training.
Investigate incident reports pertaining to Biomedical Department.
To decide as to which equipment’s should be covered under AMC / CMC.
To budget for all matters pertaining to the service / maintenance, upgrading of Medical equipment’s, service contracts etc.
Ensure needed consumables are always available by timely ordering of spares.
Prepares requisitions for spare parts procurement from stores / manufacturer.
Direct the evaluation of new technology for patient care, the development of specifications for medical equipment acquisition, the design of test procedure for medical devices and the design of custom devices as needed.
Develop new program proposals as needed / requested including budgetary as well as operations components.
Ensure the review of supplies, instrumentation, and facilities in the hospital, relative to safety and performance and recommend required or desirable changes.
To issue the equipment damage / lost form to the concerned department.
Assists the Quality Department in ensuring compliance to all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Assists in the development, timely review and updating of the department manual as per the hospital policy.
Define and monitor department specific quality indicators and report the data for the same.
Represent the department as part of the FMS Committee and ensure presence in all the relevant committee meetings.
Quality and Safety
Promoting and maintaining quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place. Conduct method evaluation/ development as per standard policies and procedures
Complying with all safety and quality control programs and procedures as applicable
Complying with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infections
Ensuring that safety procedures and quality assurance tests are maintained within all sections
Comply and support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed
Communicating in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status.
Continuous Education
Participating in education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses on the safe and secure handling of equipment, i.e teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, and clinical presentations
Participating in department programs/ committees, various hospital committees, and staff meeting (when requested)
Participating in the orientation and training of new employees
Maintaining professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or on-line education sessions
Completing and maintaining all regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
The ability to apply technical skills, together with a demonstrable knowledge of and interest in sciences, such as anatomy, physiology and physics;
Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems
Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements
Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports
Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
Comply with reasonable OSH instructions, policies and safe working procedures
Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
Not wilfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety
Comply with Waste management procedures and policies. Reduce, Reuse, Recycling of waste as much as possible
Attend all OSH Trainings, awareness programs and mock drills.
Participates in the OSHMS audits, inspections, ensuring standards are maintained
Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI):
PCI is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are required to read and implement the NMC PCI Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff and visitors.
The strictest hand hygiene, 5 moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows and environmental care, will be expected of all staff, including the post holder, at all times
Qualification, Licensure, Experience and Special Skills:
Qualifications & licensure
Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering.
Careful measurement and analysis skills.
Attentive to details.
Excellent verbal communication with patients, medical staff, other engineers.
3 to 5 years’ experience in a hospital set up.

Fluent spoken and written English. Spoken Arabic is advantageous but not essential.
