Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to perform professional civil engineering tasks in support of capital projects, plan review, and other infrastructure construction & maintenance projects.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Conducts and/or reviews modeling, planning, and engineering studies in support of routine project analysis and design, and provides technical support during construction; prepares reports detailing the quantitative analysis performed and concluding recommendations; and reviews and verifies engineering calculations and analysis submitted by engineering technicians.

Conducts a programming assessment to determine project requirements; and participates in the development of lists of potential infrastructure improvement projects to be included in the capital investment plan for the program or division.

Develops preliminary/final plans and designs using CAD and other engineering/drafting tools; and develops engineering specifications for project construction based on programming assessment, design concepts, fundamental engineering principles, and approved preliminary plan.

May provide limited direction or oversight to engineering and drafting technicians assigned to a project.

Calculates cost estimates and identifies resources needed for projects.

Facilitates communication between the property owner, project manager, contractors, other governmental agencies, the public, and other interested parties.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline required.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
