About the Position

We are looking for an Engineer Associate with a focus on project and construction management, and on enhancing public services. Our desired candidate will have specific experience in planning and construction of roadways, maintenance, pavement preservation, and related projects.

We Require

  • Four years of professional pre-registration civil engineering experience; OR

  • Four years of experience leading and performing senior-level technical engineering work; OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field

  • Certification as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) may substitute for the experience

Other Requirements

Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire.

Job Contributions

  • Plan, manage, and coordinate construction and maintenance for new and reconstructed roadways, bridges, subdivisions, drainage structures, utilities, guardrails, sidewalks, curb and gutter, signing, striping, traffic control, and all other roadway features

  • Perform project management duties by preparing the scope of work for roadway maintenance projects; review project plans, specifications, and estimates; coordinate design activities with various engineering disciplines

  • Review, inspect, and monitor projects under contract; resolve discrepancies between field conditions and plans; recommend methods of resolving field issues; negotiate and prepare change orders; prepare and approve project pay estimates

  • Review daily inspection reports, project schedules, contractor submittals, and coordinate daily work tasks for the delivery of roadway construction projects

  • Review construction plans, specifications, and details for constructability in accordance with MAG specifications and standard details; MCDOT specifications and standard details, and other applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, rules, and regulations

  • Participate in project development meetings and ensure project deliverables meet scope, schedule, and budget; coordinate the development of project designs; evaluate the need for design changes and provide technical recommendations

  • Assist Engineers in preparing and managing construction contracts of various types

  • Using computer software programs, prepare and maintain detailed project reports, documents, files, and inspections; prepare general correspondence, emails, memorandums, letters, and enter/retrieve project data

  • Respond to questions from citizens and agencies on public works projects and plans

  • Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
