Engineer – Land Installation

Location: Oslo, Norway
Business Group: Power Transmission & Distribution (PWR‑T)

About the role

As an Engineer – Land Installation at Nexans, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality land cable installation projects. You will be part of the Land Installation Engineering team and will work closely with project managers, lead engineers, procurement, and on‑site teams to ensure our cables and components are installed safely, efficiently and in line with contract requirements and regulations.

You will typically be allocated to one or more projects where you are responsible for land installation engineering, technical deliverables and interfaces with the Land Installation department. Depending on your experience, you may also act as Lead Engineer in projects.

What you will do

Engineering & documentation

  • Understand and define the scope of work for the land installation discipline based on the project contract
  • Identify technical approaches and solutions for how the scope can be executed
  • Prepare, maintain and deliver technical documentation for the land installation scope according to plan, laws, rules and regulations
  • Present technical solutions to project stakeholders (Project Manager, client, etc.)
  • Follow up and archive project documentation, including as‑built documentation
  • Participate in design and document review processes (DIC/IDC)
  • Follow up documentation and deliverables from subcontractors

Planning & coordination

  • Prepare and maintain the land installation plan and provide input to the overall project plan
  • Develop and follow up the Master Document Register for your discipline
  • Provide input to logistics planning
  • Prepare, maintain and follow up travel plans for Land Installation resources (flights, rental cars, hotels, transport of equipment, etc.)
  • Clarify interfaces and areas of responsibility within the project (lead vs. project engineer, internal disciplines, stakeholders)

Procurement & resources

  • Verify that necessary installation materials and services are identified and provided
  • Prepare and maintain procurement lists together with the Project Procurement Manager
  • Prepare technical procurement documentation and purchase requisitions
  • Evaluate bids with respect to budget, quality and time, and follow up deliveries and deviations
  • Identify and specify resource needs early and follow up resources to solve the land installation scope of work
  • Coordinate and delegate work to foremen, cable jointers and hired personnel on site, ensuring everyone understands their scope of work

Cost control & reporting

  • Follow up the budget for the land installation discipline and monitor costs
  • Flag necessary investments and potential variation orders
  • Review project budgets with the cost controller and adjust as needed
  • Check and approve invoices in relevant systems
  • Compare tender budgets with actual cost and provide feedback to the tender and controlling teams
  • Ensure reporting within the project and department is timely and according to requirements

HSE, quality & continuous improvement

  • Ensure that work is performed in accordance with internal and external HSE rules, laws and regulations
  • Identify applicable regulations for each project and follow up internal HSE requirements
  • Report undesired events and actively participate in HSE meetings, toolbox talks and safe job analyses
  • Deliver agreed quality and ensure internal instructions and contract requirements are followed
  • Report and follow up deviations in quality
  • Contribute to developing the department through lessons learned, suggesting improvements and sharing knowledge
  • Participate in and take initiative to relevant training and courses

What we are looking for

  • Engineer with relevant education ( Bachelor’s or Master’s) or equivalent experience
  • Typically 0–5 years of engineering experience, preferably from infrastructure, construction, energy or similar project environments
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with multiple stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Fluent in Norwegian and English, both written and spoken
  • High sense of quality and on‑time delivery
  • Ability to work under pressure, take initiative and adapt to change
  • Structured, proactive and able to manage several tasks in parallel
