JOB DESCRIPTION:

The System Engineer is responsible for the engineering implementation of automatic door entrances on new passenger transit rail vehicle designs. System engineers propose an entrance system based on concepts and components from the global design portfolio that will meet customer functional specifications and industry standards (APTA, ADA, FRA, ASTM, IEEE, EMC standards, etc).

Automated door systems involve electromechanical components, electrical safety systems, embedded hardware and software vehicle systems, vehicle Ethernet and CAN based networks, relay control logic, and diagnostics systems.

System Engineers balance cost, performance, weight, and longevity to optimize scope of supply and functional specifications for the door systems on metro, LRV, streetcar, regional and commuter, and intercity passenger transit railcars.

• Maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment and ensure the compliance with company's rules and policies.
• Must be able to comply with quality, product safety, and HSE rules, guidelines and regulations. Be energy conscious, if applicable.
• Must understand and comply with applicable standards. ( i.e.: ISO 9001, ISO 22163, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, AAR, and CMMI).

• Review customer specifications and create requirements traceability matrix in proposal phase and track through verification and validation phases
• Develop new system proposals and documentation such as system descriptions and interface analysis
• Create test plans and oversee qualification testing of system throughout the vehicle development cycle including providing direction and reviewing outputs of test and validation engineering.
• Create system bill of materials, keep updated, and provide costing/weight estimates
• Provide customer feedback to design engineers and project management
• Lead or facilitate design reviews involving contributing engineering resources.
• Perform risk analysis and mitigation plans for technical issues when they arise.
• Oversee on-car commissioning according to our scope to make sure that systems achieve final acceptance from the customer
• Interface with manufacturing engineering, quality, and production associates to ensure consistent product quality once in the delivery phase.
• Provide engineering task schedule input to project management
• Review and approve customer manuals and training materials produced by the Engineering Services Department
• Provide quarterly project updates to Senior Staff and Department Managers regarding project progress
• Check and verify the documentation created by other Systems Engineers
• Develop new systems for the North American market, with new functions and features based on customer requirements
• Provide support to the Department Team Leader and Department Manager in training and onboarding new hires
• When requested, represent the company at customer facing functions such as technical introductory meetings (aka road shows), industry trade shows, or other non-project specific activities that require customer engagement

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Westminster is $89,900 to $134,900 per year. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry and education. Knorr Brake Company is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations. Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, employees (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, vision, and basic life and disability insurance. Employees also will be able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 120 hours of vacation leave and 40 hours of Personal Paid Absence every year. Employees will also enjoy 12 paid holidays, and 1 floating holiday throughout the calendar year, subject to relevant terms outlined in the employee handbook. 6 weeks of paid parental leave will also be available for use. Requirements for these benefits will be controlled by applicable plan documents and policies. Employees working on federal contracts covered by the Federal Paid Sick Leave requirements will be notified and will receive benefits consistent and compliant with the FPSL requirements. Hired applicant will be able to purchase company stock, subject to the relevant plan documents and annual bonuses based on achievement of certain metrics of up to 4% of annual salary.
