Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, installation, operation, and training of optical-based equipment
  • Help design and validate alignment and testing systems for optical components and assemblies based on customer requirements and company manufacturing capabilities
  • Support optical measurement and metrology activities, including interferometric testing, dimensional verification, and optical performance evaluation
  • Prepared and release engineering drawings and technical documentations to manufacturing teams
  • Independently or collaboratively work with other teams to maintain and troubleshoot major issues of NPI-developed equipment, and provide advice or solutions for short- and long-term corrective action
  • Support the manufacturing team assigned by NPI manager
  • Support internal colloquium sessions and training workshops on optical design principles, optical specifications (e.g., ISO 10110), and drawing interpretation to strengthen technical competence within the manufacturing team
  • Review and analyse customer drawings and specifications for optical components and assemblies; evaluate optical and mechanical tolerances to ensure manufacturability, performance, and compliance with applicable standards
  • Perform additional duties or special assignments as directed by the Line Manager

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Optoelectronics/Photonics, Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science & Engineering, or other related disciplines
  • Master’s degree in above mentioned majors or related majors is strongly preferred
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or R&D environment involving the design, development, and qualification of test systems for optical systems and solutions
  • Alternatively, experience in research institutes or universities working with optical systems, optical assemblies, or automation equipment is acceptable. Candidates with publications in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings are strongly preferred
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Skills

  • Solid fundamental knowledge of optics, optical telecommunications, photonics, lasers, or optoelectronics.
  • Experience in optical component, assembly, module, or system development is strongly preferred
  • Skilled in evaluating optical and mechanical tolerances to ensure manufacturability and performance compliance
  • Experience with optical and optomechanical design software, such as Zemax OpticStudio, SolidWorks, or other 3D CAD tools, is preferred
  • Proficient in English for technical communication; additional language skills (e.g., Chinese) are a plus
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally for training, equipment support, or collaboration as needed

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the teammates in projects requiring the development and design for new products, designs, and platforms
  • Independently or collaboratively work with cross-functional teams to release the new products, designs and platforms built by NPI to manufacturing teams
  • Create and release mechanical drawings to the PLM system (e.g., Oracle, SAP, etc)
  • Prepare and release work instructions (WI), standard operating procedures (SOP) and other related documents to the manufacturing team once the developed system is released to Production
  • To be assigned by the NPI Manager

Working Conditions

  • Work with advanced optical technologies and high-precision measurement equipment.
  • Perform regular hands-on work with manufacturing and metrology instruments.
  • Work may take place in specialized workshops, cleanrooms, and standard office environments.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training or collaboration at overseas facilities.
