Job Description

The Engineer 1 position is an entry-level role requiring 0-5 years of related experience and an accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering The Engineer will apply engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to design and construct power-related systems. The role involves supporting project estimates, developing design options, and preparing construction specifications. Additionally, the Engineer will provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors in the development of design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain a safe work environment by prioritizing safety.
• Understand and apply processes used for planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance.
• Develop knowledge of the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in design, construction, and maintenance.
• Apply design practices and work processes, ensuring compliance with industry and Southern Company standards.
• Utilize software applications effectively for design and project development.
• Support the development of design standards and criteria for the system.
• Provide assistance to construction and maintenance teams during daily operations.
• Estimate material needs for projects and prepare construction packages and supporting specifications.

Required Skills and Expertise:

• Engineering Knowledge: Basic understanding of engineering principles and practices.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues and develop solutions under supervision.
• Software Proficiency: Introductory knowledge of discipline-specific software tools.
