Job Description

This is a permanent contract working Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm

You will be carrying out troubleshooting, repairs, and overhauls on a range of Cummins heavy duty engines within the Wellingborough Service Workshop. From small capacity engines to High Horsepower products for markets including industrial, defence and locomotive. Working to the documented service procedures, and within the health and safety guidelines. Completing all work and documentation on time and to a high standard.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of Cummins heavy-duty engines, from small capacity units to High Horsepower products used in Industrial, Defence, and Locomotive markets.

  • Carry out complete engine overhauls, including disassembly, inspection, cleaning, and reassembly of engine components in accordance with documented service procedures.

  • Identify and prepare required parts and tools for complex repair tasks, following company policies and quality standards.

  • Assist senior technicians with fault diagnosis and the development of repair plans, supporting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

  • Deliver high-quality service to customers by ensuring all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.

  • Adhere to all Health, Safety & Environmental regulations, maintaining a clean and organized work area and reporting any safety concerns to supervisors.

  • Complete required documentation, including work orders, time sheets, warranty claims, and quality control records using both handwritten forms and business system input.

  • Participate in local workshop projects and ongoing training programs to support skill development and meet evolving business needs.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Hands-on experience in engine strip-downs and rebuilds across a variety of engine types; a strong interest in engines and mechanical systems is essential.

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and maintain strong customer relationships.

  • Proactive in personal development, seeking growth opportunities through formal training and on-the-job experiences; adaptable to changing situations and demands.

  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices and diagnostic processes, including the use of mechanical/electronic tools and software to troubleshoot and document engine issues accurately.

  • Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products

  • Repairing and rebuilding engines

  • Minimal level of workshop experience required

  • Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution

  • Locally valid driving permit (Preferred)

  • Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations
