Job Description

We are looking for a talented Engine Workshop Technician to join our team specializing in Service for our Master Rebuild Centre in Johannesburg, South Afrcia.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways

  • Complete engine repairs, rebuilds, and maintenance tasks efficiently, helping to keep customer equipment running reliably and minimizing downtime.
  • Apply established service procedures and policies to ensure repairs are completed safely, accurately, and in line with Cummins quality standards.
  • Support the inspection, disassembly, cleaning, and assessment of engines and components to identify issues and contribute to effective repair solutions.
  • Prepare the correct parts, tools, and equipment before maintenance activities, improving workshop productivity and reducing repair delays.
  • Accurately complete service documentation, timesheets, warranty claims, and quality records to support operational excellence and compliance requirements.
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills through training programs, enabling increased capability and contribution to the workshop team.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by properly caring for tools, equipment, and the service area.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by following Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, promptly reporting hazards or incidents, and helping to ensure a safe workplace for all team members.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Maintain a strong focus on safety and compliance by following all safe work practices, wearing the appropriate PPE, and adhering to Cummins and industry Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Apply strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to accurately diagnose, repair, and rebuild components while ensuring high-quality workmanship and efficient service delivery.
  • Utilize electronic service tools effectively to perform diagnostics, interpret results, identify root causes, and determine the appropriate corrective actions.
  • Deliver quality results within established turnaround times by maintaining an organized work area, following 5S principles, completing documentation accurately, and ensuring customer expectations are met.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and continuous learning by supporting the training and development of apprentices, escalating complex technical issues appropriately, and continuously building technical expertise.

Education/ Experience

  • Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred).
  • Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution.
  • Locally valid driving permit (Preferred).
  • Minimal level of workshop experience required.
  • Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
