AI Singapore (AISG) is a national AI programme launched by the National Research Foundation (NRF), Singapore, to build and anchor deep national capabilities in AI. AISG is supported through a government-wide partnership including the NRF, Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Economic Development Board (EDB) and Enterprise Singapore (ESG). We bring together research institutions and the vibrant ecosystem of AI start-ups and companies to support impactful research, develop talent, and power Singapore's AI efforts.
This position will be hosted at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) under VP (Artificial Intelligence & Digital Economy)’s office and we welcome you to join our community.
We are looking for an Engagement Manager to join the Data Platform team within AI Products at AISG. The team runs a data platform which supports a global effort to collect multimodal language and cultural data — cataloguing the datasets that help AI understand the world’s underrepresented languages, and bringing together linguists, researchers, contributors, and partner organisations across Asia and beyond.
This is a self-directed role focused on growing and sustaining that community and on helping to grow the data that powers the platform. Your primary mandate is outreach, growth, and data acquisition — attracting new users, contributors, and traffic to the platform, encouraging and facilitating data contributions, and keeping the community engaged and invested over time. Working towards goals and guardrails agreed with the team, you will exercise your own judgement on where and how to reach each community, whether online, in person, or through partners. You will draw on the team’s partner ecosystem as a primary means of extending reach and shape the community’s direction with a considerable degree of autonomy.
This role is offered on a part-time basis and is suitable for candidates seeking flexible working arrangements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Outreach and growth
Attract new users, contributors, and traffic to the platform — identifying and reaching researchers, linguists, developers, and underrepresented-language communities in the venues where they already gather, from research networks and developer platforms to regional AI groups and social channels.
Conceive and deliver outreach campaigns and initiatives that raise awareness of the platform, its datasets, and the opportunities to contribute.
Data acquisition and contributor facilitation
Serve as the first point of contact for prospective data contributors — welcoming interest and connecting willing contributors with the team.
Act as the bridge between prospective contributors and the team — clarifying what contributing involves and coordinating a smooth handover for the technical process.
Community engagement and retention
Sustain an active, returning community — encouraging repeat contributions, supporting established contributors, and cultivating first-time visitors into lasting participants.
Foster constructive conversation and support across online forums and communities and respond thoughtfully to the needs of contributors and users.
Partnerships and ecosystem
Cultivate relationships with the team’s research and community partners across the region and work through them to extend the platform’s reach into their audiences.
Represent the platform with credibility before academic, research and community stakeholders, both online and at events where appropriate.
Content, communication and measurement
Develop and distribute compelling content — post, updates and materials — that stimulate participation and advocate the platform’s mission and value.
Monitor engagement and growth signals — new users, contributions, platform usage, referral traffic and community activity — and refine your approach considering what works.
Qualifications:
You should be an accomplished community builder who works with autonomy, moves fluidly between online, in-person, and partner-led channels, and represents a research-focused, mission-driven platform with credibility before technical and non-technical audiences alike.
Our ideal candidate would have:
A degree in communications, marketing, public relations, the social sciences, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum 7 years of experience in community engagement, community management, developer relations, or outreach, with a demonstrable record of growing and sustaining an active community.
Proven strength in stakeholder and partnership management — establishing and sustaining productive relationships with external partners, community organisations, and other stakeholders.
The ability to engage prospective data contributors — understanding their needs at a high level, explaining what contributing involves, and coordinating a smooth handover to the team.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage audiences across cultures and time zones.
The judgement to select and run the right mix of channels — online (forums, social, newsletters), in person (meetups, events), and through partners — and to plan and deliver events, programmes, and campaigns.
A sound grasp of engagement metrics, with the ability to track growth and activity and adapt your approach accordingly.
A high degree of self-direction: resourceful, proactive, and able to set your own rhythm and exercise sound judgement amid ambiguity with light oversight.
Bonus: experience within a technology, research, or academic ecosystem; familiarity with underrepresented-language, open-data, or open-source communities; relevant regional-language ability; or experience operating within Singapore public sector or research programmes.
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
