About the team

You’ll be part of a small, friendly team focused on waste and cleansing public engagement, with the opportunity to work flexibly in a hybrid role and access a range of council-wide benefits.

About the Role

Looking for a short-term role where you can make a real difference to people and the environment?

We’re looking for a proactive and creative Engagement and Behaviour Change Officer to join Nottingham City Council’s Waste and Cleansing Service on a fixed-term maternity cover.

This is a great opportunity to shape how we work with residents and businesses to reduce waste, improve recycling, and keep Nottingham clean.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll lead the planning and delivery of engagement campaigns that encourage positive behaviour change across the city. Your work will help improve recycling rates, reduce contamination, and tackle environmental issues such as littering and fly-tipping.

You’ll:

  • Design and deliver creative campaigns that engage and educate the public and promote correct recycling and waste disposal behaviour
  • Lead targeted campaigns linked to local priorities and national initiatives
  • Make it easier for people to recycle more and waste less
  • Work closely with residents, businesses and community groups
  • Create engaging content for digital, social media and offline channels
  • Measure what works, using insight and data to improve future campaigns
  • Build strong relationships with teams across the Council and external partners to maximise impact

About You

We’re looking for someone who can connect with people and turn ideas into meaningful action.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience of engagement, campaigns, or behaviour change work, particularly in a public-facing realm
  • Experience creating communications and engagement tools (online and offline)
  • A good understanding of how behaviour change happens in practice
  • Experience evaluating campaigns or programmes and using insight to improve delivery
  • Strong digital skills including social media and standard IT packages
