Responsibility

Cooperate with team lead and perform development and design of satellite propulsion systems (including chemical

and electric propulsion).

・Based on the mission requirements, evaluate the compatibility with the satellite system, examine various tradeoffs, and design the propulsion system specifications to optimize the overall system.

・Conduct various design studies and analyses of the propulsion system and propulsion system components.

・Examine the layout of the propulsion system, and work with CAD engineers to create, maintain, and revise

drawings.

・In close cooperation with the procurement staff, performs technical coordination, specification determination,

and progress management with suppliers and external development partners.

・Coordinate interfaces with other subsystems and satellite systems.

・Planning and supporting satellite system tests and launch operations.

・Planning on-orbit operations and supporting satellite operations related to the propulsion system.

・Design propulsion systems to achieve system-optimal propulsion system solutions, considering cost, mass, and

other system requirements, as well as manufacturing, assembly, and operability.

・Execute activities to reduce the cost of propulsion systems (identify current costs, set goals, develop cost

reduction ideas, verify effectiveness, develop key technologies, and monitor cost progress).

・Report progress to the team leader, group manager, and project manager in a timely manner

<Essential Skills>

  • At least 5 years of experience in designing and developing systems using fluid control equipment, high-pressure gas

equipment, or mobility, etc.

  • Experience coordinating and negotiating with suppliers
  • Commercial awareness (cost and delivery management, supply chain development, etc.)
  • Ability to use CAD modeling tools to generate 3D designs and layouts
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • English proficiency equivalent to or better than 750 TOEIC
  • Native level Japanese language skills to communicate with domestic customers and suppliers

<Desired Skills>

  • Experience in development and on-orbit operation of satellite or other spacecraft propulsion systems
  • Knowledge of satellite system development processes
  • Experience with cost and assembly/manufacturability improvements

About Astroscale

Founded in 2013, Astroscale is the global leader in on-orbit servicing, dedicated to the secure and sustainable development of space for the benefit of future generations. The company provides trusted and value-added solutions for government and commercial clients from their geography of choice, to drive the long-term, circular space economy. Astroscale is also collaborating with government and commercial stakeholders to develop norms, regulations, and incentives that promote the sustainable growth of space.

Since its first successful launch in March 2021, Astroscale has proven rendezvous and proximity operations technologies in orbit during the ELSA-d and ADRAS-J missions, establishing the company as a leader in on-orbit servicing. Astroscale spacecraft have been selected for pioneering missions with JAXA, the U.S. Space Force, the European Space Agency, the UK Space Agency, and Eutelsat OneWeb. As more satellite operators adopt on-orbit servicing to routinely inspect, service and remove, the potential of a circular space economy — and a future of no waste in space — is being unlocked.

Headquartered in Japan, Astroscale has a global presence with subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and Israel.
