The Energy Risk Analyst III plays a critical role in supporting Dairyland’s energy trading and power supply activities by providing independent risk oversight, analytical insight, and decision support. This role sits at the intersection of trading, finance, and operations, ensuring transparency into market positions, risk exposures, and financial performance.
As an experienced professional, this position leads complex analysis, enhances risk reporting, and drives process improvements that directly impact decision-making across the organization. The role offers significant exposure to power and natural gas markets, and portfolio strategy.
As an experienced professional, the position will take ownership of complex projects, identify areas for process improvement, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions. This position requires strong analytical, technical, and communication skills, as well as a solid understanding of energy markets, risk management practices, and industry regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operational Support: Provide daily independent risk oversight of power supply and trading portfolios; perform calculations such as Mark-to-Market (MtM) and Value-at-Risk (VaR); monitor positions and validate trade data.
Risk and Performance Analysis: Lead analysis of market, credit, and operational risks; provide insights into P&L drivers and exposures; support leadership decision-making.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance risk analytics, reporting automation, and system capabilities; collaborate with IT and cross-functional teams.
Data Integrity and Reporting Ensure accuracy across trading and risk systems; deliver reporting to senior leadership on exposures and performance.
Compliance and Controls: Support strong risk governance while enabling efficient operations; assist with audits and regulatory requirements.
Market Knowledge and Collaboration: Develop understanding of MISO markets; partner with trading, finance, and operations to provide independent risk perspective.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
Level III: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required, MBA preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in financial analysis, energy trading, risk management, or related fields. Experience within the electric utility or energy sector is strongly preferred.
Sr. Level: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required, MBA preferred. Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in financial analysis, energy trading, risk management, or related fields. Significant experience within the electric utility or energy sector is highly preferred
Skills:
• Experience in energy, commodities, or financial services preferred.
• Strong analytical, modeling, and communication skills.
• Experience with risk systems is a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with MISO market operations is a plus
