About Eagle Creek: We are a leading private renewable energy company focused on acquiring and operating hydropower and developing community-scale solar projects. We believe hydropower and solar are key sustainable resources that play a critical and growing role in meeting demand for clean energy and a low-carbon economy.  We own and operate 85 hydropower plants in 18 states with a combined capacity of more than 690 megawatts, and have begun construction on a portfolio of solar projects that will add to that generation.

About the Role: The Energy Manager & Trader is responsible for optimizing the commercial and operational performance of the company’s hydropower portfolio across ISO/RTO and bilateral power markets. This role leads energy management, wholesale market participation, and trading activities to maximize revenue, manage risk, and support long-term portfolio value. The position requires close coordination with plant operations, finance, and senior leadership to align hydrology, dispatch decisions, and market strategies across organized markets and bilateral transactions.

This position is expected to be filled out of our office headquarters located in Bethesda, Maryland. Candidates in other areas may also be considered for a remote position.

Key Responsibilities:

Energy Management & Trading
  • Develop and execute market participation, trading, and hedging strategies for a portfolio of hydropower assets across ISO/RTO and bilateral power markets.
  • Lead short-term and forward power trading activities.
  • Manage exposure to power price volatility, congestion, basis risk, counterparty risk, and hydrology-driven variability.
  • Oversee energy scheduling, bidding and offering strategies, settlements, confirmations, and reconciliation processes.
  • Negotiate, execute, and manage power sales agreements, hedges, and structured products.
Hydro Portfolio Optimization
  • Coordinate closely with plant operations to optimize dispatch, outage planning, and water value across hydropower facilities.
  • Integrate hydrology forecasts, reservoir constraints, and operational flexibility into market and bilateral trading decisions.
  • Monitor portfolio performance versus budget, forecast, and market benchmarks; recommend and implement corrective actions.
Market Analysis & Commercial Strategy
  • Monitor ISO/RTO market rules, pricing dynamics, congestion patterns, bilateral market conditions, and regulatory developments.
  • Analyze historical and forward price curves to identify commercial opportunities and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Build and maintain financial models to evaluate trading strategies, asset performance, bilateral contracts, and commercial transactions.
  • Support development, acquisition, and financing activities through market, pricing, and revenue diligence.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
  • Serve as a primary commercial interface with ISOs/RTOs, bilateral counterparties, utilities, brokers, and trading partners.
  • Provide clear market insights, performance reporting, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Lead continuous improvement of forecasting, analytics, and data processes supporting trading and energy management.
  • Provide guidance, oversight, or mentorship to supporting staff or cross-functional teams, as applicable.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, business, energy management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in power markets, energy trading, energy management, or portfolio optimization.
  • Strong understanding of wholesale electricity markets, including ISO/RTO and bilateral market structures, pricing, congestion, and settlement mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience managing market, operational, and counterparty risk and executing commercial strategies.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing or trading asset-backed generation portfolios, particularly dispatchable resources such as hydropower.
  • Familiarity with power market analytics, forecasting, and trading platforms.
  • Proficiency with data and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, or similar).
  • Experience structuring and negotiating bilateral power transactions, PPAs, and financial hedging instruments.
  • Prior experience leading projects, initiatives, or mentoring junior staff.
Salary Disclosure: The expected base salary range for this position is $100,000-$120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on individual candidate experience, education, skills, and geographical location.

About Eagle Creek Renewable Energy LLC

Eagle Creek Renewable Energy was founded in 2010 to acquire, enhance and operate small hydroelectric power facilities. Eagle Creeks’ facilities provide clean energy to electricity consumers in North America while allowing recreational opportunities and protecting historical resources and the environment. Eagle Creek currently owns and operates eighty-six hydroelectric facilities representing approximately 640 megawatts of capacity across the United States. Eagle Creek also has ownership interests equivalent to approximately 12 megawatts in fourteen other hydroelectric facilities and two solar facilities in New England.

Eagle Creek is a privately-owned entity and is wholly-owned subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation.

In November 2018, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) acquired Eagle Creek from Hudson Clean Energy Partners, Power Energy Corporation and its other previous investors. On October 8, 2019, Ontario Power Generation announced the finalization of the acquisition of Cube Hydro Partners and Helix Partners (collectively, Cube Hydro) from I Squared Capital. The two companies are now merging into one, operating under the Eagle Creek Renewable Energy Name.

Eagle Creek continues to seek opportunities to acquire hydroelectric facilities and improve them to increase clean power production, operate them in harmony with the environment and enhance the value of the company's hydroelectric portfolio for its investor, employees, host communities and all stakeholders in the projects.
