We are looking for an Energy Management Officer to join our Real Property Planning and Management (RPPM) Branch. The successful candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
Working closely with a multidisciplinary project delivery team, engineering and operations team, the Energy Management Officer is a vital member of RPPM’s engineering and construction team. They will be responsible for utility management and for identifying, assessing, and recommending measures and opportunities to reduce energy use, water consumption and carbon emissions in NRC operated facilities.
Since the NRC is transitioning to low-carbon, climate-resilient and green operations as part its commitment to the Federal Sustainability Development Strategy, a key activity will be the recommissioning of existing building mechanical systems and their controls to ensure effective and efficient operation. Work involves tracking energy use, trending actual operation versus intended operation to develop measures with a particular emphasis on optimizing and standardizing building controls and sequences. The role touches on all steps from investigation, design, implementation, monitoring and hand-off.
In addition, the Energy Officer will provide technical advice and support to the RPPM Branch and Research staff related to equipment and system selection, operation and associated energy use.
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited engineering program that fulfills the academic requirements for licensure with Canada’s engineering regulators per the rules and practices set forth and administered by Engineers Canada
Membership in a Provincial Professional Engineering Association, Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) would be considered an asset.

The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the RCO-1/RCO-2 level, which is an early-career level position with a salary range of $64,739 to $116,641
NOTE: Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for this position).
In addition, the incumbent who meets the language requirements will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
