JOB TITLE Endoscopy (GI) Scope Washer

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

To process Endoscopes according to recommended AORN and AAMI Standards. Performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery center, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process. Performs the cleaning, and high-level disinfection with the automated endoscope reprocessor.

Knowledge of equipment function sufficient to be able to determine operational adequacy and to distinguish between operator error and equipment malfunction. Knowledge of applicable sanitary, infection control, and safety standards sufficient to be able to perform all assignments within the safety parameters. Knowledge of processes, procedures, quality assurance, chemicals, and medical instruments sufficient to be able to decontaminate and sterilize equipment, supplies and instruments.

Inventory Management: Maintaining inventory levels of instruments and supplies, ordering new items as needed, and ensuring that all necessary equipment is readily available for use.

Documentation: Keeping accurate records of all cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization processes to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Knowledge of standard precautions, aseptic technique and principles of sterilization and instrument handling.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Assists in the cleaning and turn-over of OR rooms between cases, as needed.

Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school graduate or GED Certification
  • Nursing Assistant Program graduate preferred.
  • Six months experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • BLS required.
