ENCORE Teacher (Valley View Elementary)

Columbia Heights Public Schools is hiring teachers for our after-school ENCORE programming.

ENCORE semester 1 begins the week of October 28, 2026 and will run through January 28, 2027.

ENCORE semester 2 begins the week of February 24, 2027 and will run through May 13, 2027.

Schedule:

Afterschool Hours: 2:30-4 (instructional time) 4-4:30 (clean-up/transition time with students) = 2 hours time carded

Before school hours: 7:20-7:50 (instructional time) = .5 hours time carded

Additional Details:

  • Proposed classes must include an academic component. Some ideas of categories that can be incorporated with your academic focus are things like; fitness/nutrition, arts, technology, environment, or youth leadership.
  • Pay Rate: $40.00/hr
  • Afterschool Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. May apply to work 1, 2 or 3 days per week.
  • Before school options Monday-Friday
  • Each semester, the teacher is allowed a maximum of 2 prep hours for curriculum writing
  • If hired as ENCORE teacher, you may also sub in ENCORE on your non-scheduled ENCORE days.
  • ENCORE aims to have a friendly, fun, and engaging culture. Think group songs, fun routines, and call-and-response attention getters. Because learning can be (and should be) fun. A daily lineup of activities that expose kids to new experiences, encourage kids to work in teams or groups, and includes academic skill-building (like reading a play and then acting it out), and get kids outside to run around and explore. Teachers should have clear reasons why particular learning activities are chosen �Look for the "intentionality" of each lesson, experiment, and experience.

Job Summary:

The Teacher works with ENCORE Leadership team to ensure the safety and support of students for the ENCORE After School Program.

  • ENCORE Teachers expand the learning and enrichment opportunities for students in out of school time. Their enthusiasm and excellence in instruction are what makes ENCORE the outstanding program that is has become.
  • Teachers respond to requests by ENCORE Leadership for class proposals.
  • First Year Teachers are limited to teaching one ENCORE class per semester.
  • Returning Teachers may teach up to three classes per semester.
  • Returning Teachers may teach one day and be a Site Facilitator on a day when they are not in the role of a teacher.
  • Teachers are required to take attendance. Accurate attendance is a requirement of ENCORE.
  • Teachers are expected to pick up the students from a designated location at the beginning of ENCORE and bring the students to the bus/front door at release time.
  • Students will have the opportunity to enjoy a snack prior to instruction. Teachers are encouraged to spend some time doing physical activities during the ENCORE class and may determine if that is inside or outside.
  • Accurate, complete, and timely submission of timesheets is expected. Timesheets are submitted to the ENCORE Site Facilitators.
  • Teachers will be given feedback on the classes through the results of surveys and informally by the Community Ed Coordinator or ENCORE Site Facilitators. Improvements and adjustments in the classes are expected to maintain quality.
