The EMS Supervisor, under the direction of the Operations Manager, serves as a key frontline leader responsible for supporting day-to-day field operations, promoting clinical excellence, and strengthening team culture. This role requires strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to consistently model professionalism and high performance. The EMS Supervisor functions as a mentor and operational resource for field personnel while ensuring operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and exceptional service delivery across all assigned stations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Oversight

  • Lead by example through professionalism, excellent customer service, and adherence to Medtrans values.
  • Serve as an information resource and primary point of contact for field crews during assigned shifts.
  • Provide guidance and support when operational challenges arise and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Assist Operations Management in ensuring compliance with company policies, protocols, and quality standards.

Field & Station Operations

  • Maintain station and vehicle readiness, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and full operational capability.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of medical supplies, equipment, and vehicle essentials.
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance needs with Operations Managers and support personnel.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of documentation, including incident reports and vehicle accident reports.
  • Assist in ambulance onboarding and preparation, including inventory setup and county inspection compliance.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with Scheduling and Dispatch to support efficient deployment and resource allocation.
  • Relay updates on policies, protocols, equipment changes, and operational expectations to field staff.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and solution-focused work environment.

Clinical & Operational Competency

  • Maintain full proficiency in all duties required of field personnel
  • Support onboarding, orientation, and mentorship of new field personnel as needed.
  • Ensure proper reporting and follow-through for employee injuries, exposures, and required documentation.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in operational, safety, training, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned to support safe and efficient daily operations.



Qualifications

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Preferred minimum of two (2) years of field experience as an EMT.
  • Prior supervisory, leadership, or management experience strongly preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Certifications

  • Active EMT Certification (required)
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification (required)
  • Current Medical Examiner’s Certificate (required)
  • Valid California Ambulance Driver’s Certificate (required)
  • Ability to maintain all credentials and compliance requirements for the duration of employment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and multitasking abilities.
  • Working knowledge of county EMS policies, medical protocols, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to anticipate operational needs, troubleshoot issues, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrated positive attitude, professionalism, and good standing within the company.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform the following duties with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Walking: Frequently, up to 10 hours/day
  • Running: Infrequently, 1–2 minutes/day
  • Standing: Frequently, up to 10 hours/day
  • Sitting: Frequently, up to 8 hours/day
  • Kneeling/Bending: Frequently, 10–15 times/day
  • Lift/push/pull/carry 150 lbs frequently (5–10 times/shift)
  • Lift/push/pull/carry 250 lbs infrequently (1–3 times/shift)
  • Climb stairs or obstacles while carrying up to 150 lbs
  • Meet California DMV DL51 hearing and vision standards
  • Maintain hand/arm strength and dexterity for lifting and gripping
  • Work in outdoor environments, including heat, cold, and adverse weather conditions

Qualifications

  • QA/QI experience
  • Training or Field Training Officer experience
  • Experience leading teams or supporting operational initiatives

  • 12-hour shifts
  • Day and night shifts
  • Weekend availability as operationally required
