Job Description

The EMS Fleet Technician is a specialized role within the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department, responsible for performing the maintenance and repair of the EMS vehicle fleet. This hands-on position requires a high level of technical skill in automotive repair. The EMS Fleet Technician collaborates closely with all internal support and operations personnel to ensure that all vehicles are safe, operational, and meet the rigorous demands of emergency medical services. The Fleet Technician does respond to urgent circumstances and is subject to recall from home or extended hours of operations as needed.

Position Requirements

• Technical degree from an Automotive/Truck College. (Preferred)
• ASE certified in one or more auto and truck repair areas. (Preferred)
• EVT certified in one or more ambulance repair areas. (Preferred)
• HVAC experience and 609 license. (Preferred)
• *Note-The EVT and ASE certifications shall be obtained within 24 months of employment.
• *The 609 HVAC license shall be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Valid Driver's License in the state of residency; must be insurable.
• At least two years of professional automotive and truck mechanical experience.
• Experience working on and managing emergency vehicles. (Preferred)
• Must be able to operate a variety of diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools.
• Must be able to fluently use computers, applications, and technology associated with maintenance, repairs and office work.
• Non-climate controlled garage area, office setting, or on-site outdoor repairs throughout the service area.
• Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects, such as parts and tools weighing up to 50lbs, and occasionally more with assistance. Frequent stooping, bending, crouching, climbing, reaching and stretching to access vehicles components, often in confined spaces. Prolonged periods of standing and walking around the workshop area, as well as moving vehicles for inspection and repair. Skilled us of hand tools and mechanical equipment, requiring good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Key Results

• Performs preventive maintenance and repairs at or prior to manufacturers recommended intervals.
• Obtains certifications listed in the appropriate timeframe and maintains said certifications.
• Maintains and executes an annual personal development plan ensuring minimum organizational expectations are met as well as initiatives that promote continuous work-related growth and improvement.
• Liaise with, coordinate and oversee third-party vendor repairs and maintenance that are beyond in-house capabilities
• Prioritizes maintenance and repairs to ensure a constant state of fleet safety and readiness.
• Works with Fleet Manager to notify of basic inventory needs or commonly required parts and supplies to enhance efficiency.
• Maintain accurate and thorough records of schedules, repairs, inventory, costs, time on task, certifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Provides leadership, technical guidance and support to other staff involved with fleet maintenance and safe operations.
• Coordinate and plan unit repair/maintenance with Fleet Manager, District Chiefs, logistics, technology and other personnel.
• Ensure fleet readiness and optimization for immediate deployment in emergency situations.
• Identify and implement best practices in fleet maintenance.
• Maintain a clean and safe shop environment.
