JOB SUMMARY:
The Life Skills and Employment will work both individually and in a group setting with residents in the agencys Permanent Supportive Housing First Program for Chronically Homeless Adults. The Life Skills and Employment Specialist will be responsible to design and implement a life skills and employment based curriculum that fits the needs of our residents and helps to achieve program goals. . The Life Skills and Employment Specialist will also use stages of change and supported employment methodology in their work.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Design and implement a life skills curriculum for residents of VOAs Permanent Supportive Housing Program for Chronically Homeless Adults based on identified needs.
- Hold appropriate, engaging individual and group life skills sessions including sessions on money management, personal hygiene, nutrition, daily coping mechanisms, household cleanliness and safety, budgeting, interpersonal communication, and landlord/tenant relationships.
- Assess residents educational, vocational and employment abilities, needs, and interests.
- Arrange or provide educational and vocational assistance
- Teach basic job skills, including but not limited to: interviewing skills, development of a resume, appropriate attire, communication with supervisor and co workers, etc...
- Provide basic computer skills classes
- Assist in job identification and placement for residents who demonstrate an interest and readiness
- Arrange for weekly social and recreational activities for residents
- Log resident contact and communication and provide to social worker
- Participate in case conferences as necessary
- Assist with data collection and reporting
- Assist with each clients assessment and the development of a service plan for each client
- Transport residents to activities, appointments, or job related functions.
EDUCTION & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors of Science in Social Work, Psychology or Human Services or related field required.
- Minimum 2-53 years experience in community residential programs working with homeless population.
- 1-3 years supervisory experience
- Experience providing employment and life skills training
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task in an ever-changing environment
- Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
- Current Red Cross first aid training certificate preferred.
- Valid NYS Drivers License-that meets VOA driving requirements
