Position Summary

The Employee Relations Coordinator reports to the Senior Director of Labor & Employee Relations and supports the day-to-day administration of employee relations matters, including reasonable accommodation requests and workplace investigations. This role ensures consistent application of policy, timely case resolution, and accurate documentation across an assigned caseload, escalating complex or sensitive matters to senior HR leadership as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations Investigations

  • Conduct investigations into employee relations matters, including complaints involving policy violations, workplace conduct concerns, and interpersonal conflicts.
  • Interview involved parties and witnesses, gather and review evidence, and document findings.
  • Prepare clear, well-supported summaries of investigation findings and recommendations for HR leadership.
  • Ensure investigations are conducted consistently, fairly, and in compliance with company policy.

Reasonable Accommodation

  • Coordinate the interactive process, including confirming the necessary supportive documentation is submitted, consulting with managers, and identifying possible accommodations.
  • Track accommodation requests from intake through resolution, ensuring timely follow-up and proper documentation.

Case Management

  • Manage an assigned caseload of employee relations matters, ensuring timely follow-through and accurate case documentation.
  • Compile and organize litigation, grievance, and contested unemployment case files for dissemination to appropriate parties as needed.
  • Maintain case tracking logs to support consistency and reporting on employee relations activity.

Unemployment Claims

  • Collect and provide information and documentation necessary to support unemployment claims processing.
  • Assist in determining and identifying witnesses necessary for unemployment hearing and coordinating their attendance.

Attendance & Points Administration

  • Verify accuracy of attendance point memos issued to employees.
  • Review and address attendance-related disputes.
  • Track and administer the attendance points system, ensuring accurate and timely recording of occurrences in accordance with policy.

Other Duties

  • Perform other employee relations duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in employee relations, HR case management, or a related HR function.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with the ADA reasonable accommodation process preferred.
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred.

Schedule

Full-time 37.5 hours per week

Monday-Friday 9am-5:30pm

BRC is one of New York City's largest providers of housing and services for individuals experiencing homelessness. Founded in 1971 by a group of recovering alcoholics living in poverty in the Bowery’s infamous flophouses, these individuals had hope, and a firm belief that better days lay ahead.
