Job Description

SGS is a world leader in inspection, verification, testing, and certification. We are recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity. SGS operates a network of approximately 2,600 offices and laboratories worldwide, employing over 89,000 people. Across the globe, SGS stands 100% for passion, pride, and innovation.

Our Natural Resources – Oil, Gas & Chemicals business line conducts port-bound inspections, verifications, and analyses in the oil and (petro)chemical industry. The activities mainly involve performing quantitative and qualitative inspections and analyses on a wide range of liquid petroleum and petrochemical products.

SGS Netherlands is looking for a Marine & Ship Vetting Services Employee. Are you at home in the world of tankers, shipping companies or the oil and chemical sector? Do you have a background as a planner, vetting coordinator or maritime administrative assistant or have you sailed and are you now ready for a role ashore? Then we cordially invite you to respond.

As a Marine & Ship Vetting Services employee, you assess, at the request of our clients, whether ships meet the applicable standards in the field of safety and quality. To do this, you will work with systems and frameworks such as CDI, OCIMF/SIRE and related vetting platforms.

This is what you will do

  • Following up and executing daily ship vetting requests from clients;
  • Evaluating and assessing inspection reports;
  • Testing ships at Port State Controls;
  • Assessing the quality of classification societies, flag states and operators;
  • Analyzing shipping incidents and adjusting the ship status.

Qualifications

You have a demonstrable affinity with the maritime tanker world, whether from a sailing background, from a planning or coordination role at a shipping company or oil company, or from an administrative position in shipping. You don't have to have dangers, but knowledge of the field is a must. You quickly master new systems and working methods.

You have excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both orally and in writing.

You are willing to work in varying shifts; A suitable interpretation is sought in consultation. Hybrid working is possible as soon as you are fully settled.

Education and background

  • A completed MBO 4 or HBO education in a nautical or maritime direction;
  • Experience as a Deck Officer or Helmsman on board oil, chemical or gas tankers is an advantage;
  • Or a background as a maritime planner, vetting coordinator or administrative assistant within a shipping company or oil company.

Additional Information

You will work in a small, close-knit team where you get a lot of independence but can always fall back on colleagues. There is regular consultation and the lines of communication are short. You will work from our office in Spijkenisse, with the possibility of hybrid working after training.

We also offer you:

  • A salary that is in line with your knowledge, experience and the responsibilities of the position.
  • 32 vacation days (based on 40 hours)
